Sugoi Pan Street at Urawa PARCO: Saitama Bakeries, Nov 7–8

Key Takeaways: Sugoi Pan Street brings popular bakeries, mostly from Saitama, to Urawa PARCO’s 1F Center Space on November 7 and 8, from 10:00 to 18:00. Most shops come on only one of the two days, and this year’s theme lets you compare cream bread and anpan stall by stall. The Sugoi Bagel Bag packs 5 bagels from several shops, with just 30 bags sold each day.

Sugoi Pan Street in Urawa PARCONov 7–8

Sat & Sun, 10:00–18:00 · Cream bread and anpan in the spotlight

Urawa PARCO is bringing together bakeries that usually draw lines at their own shops for a two-day market called Sugoi Pan Street in Urawa PARCO (すごいパンストリート in 浦和PARCO). It is the second time the event has been held, after a well-received first edition last year.

Most of the shops are from Saitama, a prefecture known for growing wheat, and many of them are particular about their ingredients and methods: Saitama-grown wheat, their own flour blends, long fermentation. This year there is also a special focus on two breads born in Japan, cream bread (クリームパン) and anpan (あんぱん), with a display explaining what makes each one different.

The catch is that the lineup changes by day. Below you will find who comes when, where to find cream bread and anpan, and how to get the limited bagel bag.

Cream bread and anpan: who sells what

Cream bread is a soft bun filled with custard cream; anpan is filled with sweet red bean paste. Both are everyday Japanese breads, but the filling, the dough and the baking change a lot from shop to shop. That is the idea behind this year’s theme: walk around and compare.

Sugoi Bagel Bag: 30 per day

Saitama has plenty of bagel shops people travel for, but visiting them one by one takes time. The Sugoi Bagel Bag puts bagels from several of them into one bag, and the mix is different each day.

Tips before you go

  • Pick your day by shop. Most bakeries come on Saturday only or Sunday only. Sourdough fans may lean toward Sunday for Bake House Yellowknife; anpan fans who want ROXIE need Saturday.
  • Plan around the Bagel Bag. With only 30 bags a day sold on site, it makes sense to head there first if it is your main target.
  • Bring some cash. Cash and PayPay are confirmed only for the Bagel Bag. Payment options at the other stalls are not announced, so do not count on cards. If you are still sorting out cashless payments in Japan, see which credit card foreigners in Japan can get first.
  • Bring a bag that keeps bread flat. Cream-filled and soft breads crush easily.
  • Check the official page on the day. The lineup and details may change without notice.
