If you live in Japan, you have probably seen them: the blue-and-white ChargeSPOT stands at convenience stores and train stations. Scan a QR code, take a power bank, and drop it off at any other stand when you’re done. It’s handy, but it isn’t cheap — even under 30 minutes costs ¥165.
docomo’s d VALUE PASS membership turns that fee into ¥0, no matter how many times or how long you borrow. And since a 2026 overhaul, anyone with a d account can join — including au, SoftBank, Rakuten Mobile and budget-SIM users. This guide walks through the perks, the math, and every sign-up screen (with the Japanese buttons translated).
d VALUE PASS comes with eight kinds of perks:
- Unlimited ChargeSPOT rentals (the focus of this guide)
- Discount coupons for movies, food and leisure
- Daily Chance: a free daily lottery
- d Barai Point Bonus: up to 100% back
- Amazon d Point Bonus Day: up to 5x points

What is d VALUE PASS?
d VALUE PASS is docomo’s membership service, priced at ¥550 a month (tax included). It used to be called “Sugotoku Contents” and was relaunched in March 2026. The biggest change: you no longer need a docomo phone line — a free d account is enough.
- Price
- ¥550/month (tax included)
- Free trial
- Up to 31 days from the sign-up date (first-time members only)
- Account
- A d account — you can create one for free while signing up
- No docomo line
- Payment by credit card only (VISA, Mastercard, JCB, AMEX)
- docomo line
- Also requires sp-mode, or the internet service of ahamo, irumo or docomo mini
According to docomo, members get around 900 coupons and around 150 apps and content services. That’s a lot to sort through, so let’s start with the perk whose value is easiest to measure: ChargeSPOT.
The headline perk: ChargeSPOT rentals for ¥0

ChargeSPOT is a power bank sharing service run by INFORICH. According to docomo, there were 54,847 stands across Japan as of June 2025, and FamilyMart passed 10,000 stores with a stand in July 2026. Each power bank has USB-C, Lightning (iPhone) and micro USB cables built in, so you don’t need your own cable.

Normally you pay by rental time. d VALUE PASS members enter a monthly “license code” in the ChargeSPOT app, and from then on every rental is ¥0 — any number of times, any length. Even going past 24 hours costs nothing.

| Rental time | Regular | Member |
|---|---|---|
| Under 30 min | ¥165 | ¥0 |
| 30 min – 1 hr | ¥330 | ¥0 |
| 1 – 3 hrs | ¥430 | ¥0 |
| 3 – 6 hrs | ¥500 | ¥0 |
| 6 – 12 hrs | ¥570 | ¥0 |
| 12 – 24 hrs | ¥640 | ¥0 |
| Over 24 hrs | +¥360/24 hrs | ¥0 |
Regular prices are per rental, tax included (ChargeSPOT’s official fee page); member prices are from docomo’s official page. Both checked October 7, 2026.
If you borrow for 30 minutes or more on two days a month, the regular price would be ¥660 or more — already above ¥550. A single rental of 6 hours or longer pays for the whole month.
ChargeSPOT also sells its own plan, “CHARGESPOT Pass” (¥390 per rental, capped at ¥2,340 a month). If you rent on more than two days a month, d VALUE PASS is the cheaper option. The two can’t be used together: after you cancel the Pass, the license code only starts working on the 1st of the following month.

Every other perk, explained
Here’s everything else that comes with the membership. Many perks are lotteries or have conditions, so we note how reliable each one is.
Discount coupons for movies, food and leisure
Movies offer the biggest savings. On the official coupon page, movie e-tickets were “up to ¥500 off, anytime”: TOHO Cinemas adult tickets went from ¥2,000–2,200 to ¥1,700, AEON Cinema from ¥2,000 to ¥1,500, and Cinema Sunshine from ¥2,000 to ¥1,400 (as shown on October 7, 2026). One movie a month nearly covers the membership on its own.

There are also discounted e-tickets for Skylark restaurants (¥1,000 voucher for ¥950, etc.), Baskin-Robbins (31 Ice Cream), Demae-can food delivery, the Sunshine 60 observatory and Tokyo Joypolis. Some coupons work by showing your phone screen at the counter; the official page lists partners such as JINS, Matsuya, Ueshima Coffee, Steak Gusto and Fuji-Q Highland.

Daily Chance: a free daily lottery
You can enter once a day. The “Present” draw gives out coupons such as a ¥100 FamilyMart shopping voucher to a total of 150,000 people each week, on the spot (the number of winners can vary by week). On Fridays there’s an extra draw for bigger prizes with 100,000 winners. The “d point” draw awards between 1 and 1,500 d points (limited-period, limited-use).

d Barai Point Bonus: up to 100% back in stores
After entering the campaign, pay ¥200 (tax included) or more with d Barai at a physical store such as a convenience store, and every payment gets a no-lose lottery for up to 100% back in d points (limited-period, limited-use). There are 50,000 “100% back” prizes each month. The maximum per payment is 700 points, and some stores and payment methods are excluded.

Amazon d Point Bonus Day: up to 5x on the 5th and 6th
Link your d account and Amazon account, and Amazon orders of ¥5,000 (tax included) or more earn 1% in d points. d VALUE PASS members get +2x (3x in total) on orders shipped on the 5th or 6th of each month — and if your Amazon Prime is billed through docomo, another +2x (5x in total). The bonus is capped at 400 points per order and 600 points a month (limited-period, limited-use). See our d point × Amazon guide for how to link the accounts.

Tower Records Online: ¥220 off (the shipping fee)
Spend ¥1,000 (tax included) or more at Tower Records Online and you can use a ¥220-off coupon — equal to the shipping fee — as many times as you like. It can’t be combined with other discounts or Tower Records points, and it doesn’t apply to in-store pickup orders. In October 2026 there was also a ¥500-off coupon for orders of ¥4,000 or more.

About 150 apps and content services
Members get the d VALUE PASS editions of everyday tools such as Weathernews and NAVITIME (train routes, buses and driving), plus the walking app ALKOO, a recipe service (Pro no Kantan E-Recipe), Hello Kitty and other character content, games and stickers — all at no extra charge. Some of them, such as ALKOO and Weathernews, also earn d points as you use them.

Perks for docomo services and travel bookings
On d Shopping (docomo’s online mall), entering each month adds +1x points and gives you ¥600 in coupons. There’s an 80%-off coupon for the e-book store d Book (up to ¥800 off), a member-only “up to 2 months effectively free” offer for the photo service d Photo, and up to ¥40,000 off with the travel booking site Airtrip (all from the coupon list as of October 7, 2026). There are also member pages for theme parks such as Sanrio Puroland and Moomin Valley Park.
Note that some content and services aren’t available on iPhone or iPad. If you’re signing up for a specific perk, check its official page first.

Signing up without a docomo line: what you need
You can sign up entirely online, but the screens are in Japanese. Have these ready before you start:
- A d account — free; you can create one during sign-up.
- A credit card (VISA, Mastercard, JCB or AMEX) — the only payment option without a docomo line.
- A phone number registered to your d account — required to receive the 550-point new-member bonus if you don’t have a docomo line.
One billing detail matters a lot: without a docomo line, fees aren’t prorated. When the 31-day free trial ends, you’re charged for that whole month, and cancelling also costs a full month regardless of the date. That’s why the start date changes how many paid days you get in your first billed month:
So if you don’t have a docomo line, sign up at the start of a month.
Step by step, with the official screens
It takes about 10 minutes on your phone. Here are the six steps, with the Japanese buttons translated:
- Enter the campaign, then sign upTo get the 550-point bonus, tap “エントリー” (Entry) on the campaign page before signing up. After entering, you’re taken straight to the sign-up screen.
- Log in with your d account and sign upCreate a free d account if you don’t have one. Without a docomo line, register a credit card as the payment method.
- Get this month’s license codeOpen the “CHARGESPOT for d VALUE PASS” page, tap “今月のコードを取得” (get this month’s code), then “ライセンスコードをコピーする” (copy the license code).
- Open My Page in the ChargeSPOT appUpdate the app to the latest version, open “マイページ” (My Page) and tap “ライセンスコードをお持ちの方” (I have a license code).
- Paste the code and confirmTap “ライセンスコードを使用する” (use license code), paste the code and tap “確定” (confirm). You’re done when the member perks show “unlimited use at a flat rate”, “no usage fee limit” and “no limit on rentals”.
- Scan a stand’s QR code to rentTap “QRスキャンして借りる” (scan QR to rent) and scan the code on the stand. A power bank pops out, and you can return it to any stand.

The app is in Japanese — just tap the spots highlighted in yellow on the official screenshots below, in order:

Your monthly checklist
Many perks only work if you tap something yourself, so it helps to put these in your calendar:
- 1st of each month
- On the ChargeSPOT page, make sure you’ve entered the point campaign → get this month’s code → enter it in the app (this order earns 5 d points)
- Every day
- Play Daily Chance once
- Before paying with d Barai
- Make sure you’ve entered the d Barai Point Bonus (only payments after entry count)
- 5th and 6th
- Time Amazon orders of ¥5,000+ to ship on these days
- Before a movie
- Buy your e-ticket through the movie coupons on the official page
- If you cancel
- Without a docomo line, cancel near the end of the month (no proration)

7 things to know before you sign up
- Some locations aren’t free: places with their own pricing — theme parks, stadiums, universities, hospitals — are excluded. docomo’s examples are LEGOLAND Japan, Tokyo Dome, Yokohama Stadium, Universal Studios Japan and Rakuten Mobile Park Miyagi.
- Japan only: ChargeSPOT stands outside Japan aren’t covered.
- One power bank at a time: a regular account can rent up to three at once, but the license code covers just one. Return it before borrowing another.
- Not returning it counts as a loss: rentals are free, but you still have to return them. Ending a rental without returning it means paying a replacement fee (¥4,080 on ChargeSPOT’s fee page).
- No combining with other coupons or the Pass: it can’t be used together with ChargeSPOT coupons, campaigns or CHARGESPOT Pass.
- No proration without a docomo line: you’re charged a full month from the month the trial ends, and a full month when you cancel (see section 4).
- The free trial is for first-timers: if you’ve had d VALUE PASS (or Sugotoku Contents) before, you may not get the 31 free days. Check the sign-up screen.
New-member bonus: 550 d points (Oct 1, 2026 – Jan 4, 2027)
docomo is currently running an “up to 2 months effectively free” campaign: on top of the 31-day trial, new members get 550 d points (limited-period, limited-use) — the same as one month’s fee.

- Stay subscribed for 32 days or more
- Be a d POINT CLUB member (docomo Business Members aren’t eligible)

- One bonus per person, including past rounds of the same campaign
The points are scheduled to arrive in early March 2027 and expire 90 days after they’re granted. docomo has also announced further rounds: January 5 – February 28, 2027 and March 1 – 31, 2027.

FAQ
- Q. Can I sign up without a docomo phone line?
- Yes. Since March 2026, anyone with a free d account can join. Without a docomo line, the only payment option is a credit card (VISA, Mastercard, JCB or AMEX).
- Q. Is it still free if I keep the power bank for more than 24 hours?
- Yes, it stays ¥0. But you can’t borrow another one until you return it, and ending the rental without returning it is treated as a loss with a replacement fee.
- Q. Do I need to enter a new license code every month?
- Yes. Each code expires at the end of the month it’s issued. At the start of each month, get the new code and enter it in the ChargeSPOT app.
- Q. What other perks are included besides ChargeSPOT?
- Discount coupons for movies, food and leisure, the Daily Chance lottery, the d Barai Point Bonus, Amazon d Point Bonus Day, Tower Records Online coupons, and about 150 apps and content services.
- Q. How much cheaper are movie tickets?
- As of October 7, 2026, the official coupon list showed movie e-tickets up to ¥500 off — for example, AEON Cinema from ¥2,000 to ¥1,500 and TOHO Cinemas adult tickets from ¥2,000–2,200 to ¥1,700.
- Q. Can my family share one code?
- No. Each membership gets one code a month, sharing it is prohibited, and one code covers only one power bank at a time.
- Q. When will I get the 550-point new-member bonus?
- For the October 1, 2026 – January 4, 2027 round, the points are scheduled for early March 2027. You need to enter on the campaign page, sign up from there and stay subscribed for at least 32 days.
