What the Kanda Curry Grand Prix is

Kanda, the neighborhood around Jimbocho and Ogawamachi in Chiyoda Ward, has more than 400 places that serve curry. Once a year, local shops bring their signature dish to one plaza and compete for the title of best curry in Kanda. This is the 14th edition.
The finals are the last stage. A fan vote held from September 1 to 10 narrowed the field to 20 shops, and those 20 now cook side by side at the venue. The lineup runs from spice-forward curries to familiar Japanese-style curry, so it is a good chance to try shops you have walked past but never entered.
The event is organized by the Kanda Curry Town Revitalization Committee (神田カレー街活性化委員会), as stated in a press release dated September 17, 2026.

How the visitor vote works

The winner is chosen by the people eating the food, not by a closed panel. Here is the flow:
- Buy a curry from any of the 20 shops.
- You receive one ballot for each curry you buy.
- After tasting, drop your ballot for the shop you liked best.
Shops are ranked by votes. The top three shops win the Grand Prix, second place and third place, and a Kanda Curry Meister Award is also given. A separate panel of curry experts also hands out a special award. This year the judges include NAOTO, a violinist well known as a big curry fan, who will also appear on stage for a talk.
The award ceremony starts at 17:00 on Sunday, November 1. Since voting closes at 16:00 that day, plan to eat and vote earlier in the afternoon if you want your ballot to count.
