Rakuten Mobile Employee Referral Campaign [August 2026]: 14,000 Points, Explained by a Rakuten Employee

Key Takeaways:Rakuten Mobile’s employee referral (code 2162) pays 14,000 points for an MNP switch and 11,000 for a new line, split into three payouts starting four months after your referral login. Second lines and returning customers qualify, unlike the standard referral program. Miss the 10-second Rakuten Link call and you get nothing.
Updated August 6, 2026 · Campaign code 2162
Written and maintained by a current Rakuten Group employee. Every condition below was checked line by line against the official campaign rules (as of August 3, 2026), with screenshots of the official page included. The referral link is the author’s own.
TL;DR: Sign up for Rakuten Mobile through the referral link on this page and get 14,000 points if you switch carriers (MNP), or 11,000 points for a new line (employee referral campaign, code 2162). Unlike the regular referral program, second lines and returning customers qualify too. Only 4 conditions: log in via the referral link with your Rakuten ID → apply → activate → make a 10-second call on Rakuten Link. It also stacks with the iPhone discount campaigns. This guide covers the latest terms, when points arrive, and the pitfalls that disqualify you.
Applying is just three actions. (1) Tap the button below — it opens the referral link. (2) Log in with your Rakuten ID — that alone completes your entry, and you get a confirmation email. (3) Apply on the Rakuten Mobile site as normal. There is no campaign code to type in: it is applied automatically the moment you log in.

Note that the similarly named “Mikitani campaign” (三木谷キャンペーン) is a different campaign. This article covers the employee referral campaign, code 2162, and the link below is for that one. See the comparison for how they differ.

How It Beats the Regular Referral Program

Rakuten Mobile has two referral schemes: the regular user referral (code 1784) and this page’s employee referral (code 2162). The employee referral wins on both amount and eligibility.

The biggest difference: even if you cancelled Rakuten Mobile in the past or want a second line for family, you still get the points. Rakuten states this explicitly on the official campaign page.

“Second lines and re-signings qualify” and “Data Type and Turbo are eligible” are stated on the official page (source: Rakuten Mobile official campaign page)

Which One Should You Actually Use?

Between the regular referral (1784) and the employee referral (2162), what decides it is eligibility, not the amount. Line the two official rulebooks up and it comes down to three cases.

  • First time with Rakuten Mobile — either works. The employee referral simply pays 1,000 points more (14,000 vs 13,000 for MNP; 11,000 vs 10,000 for a new line).
  • Second line, re-signing, or covering family tooemployee referral only. The regular referral’s official rules exclude anyone who has ever held a Rakuten Mobile line under the same name, so it is not available to you. The employee referral works up to 5 lines per person.
  • You want Rakuten Turboemployee referral only; the regular referral does not cover it.

In other words, everything except a first-ever contract favours the employee referral, and even for a first contract you lose nothing. If in doubt, the employee referral is the safe pick — that conclusion follows directly from the official rules.

How Does It Differ from the “Mikitani Campaign”?

The campaign most often compared with this one is the “Mikitani campaign” (三木谷キャンペーン). The names get confused, but Rakuten’s own FAQ lists it separately as “【楽天モバイル】楽天・三木谷浩史の特別なお客様” (campaign code 2798), alongside the employee referral (2162) this article covers. They are two different campaigns.

Choosing between them is simple.

  • First line, and you already have a Mikitani link — the points arrive roughly two months sooner, and the amount is the same 14,000. Take the faster one.
  • You already used the Mikitani campaign, or you want a second line — Mikitani is once per person, so it is spent. This is where the employee referral, good for up to 5 lines, takes over.
  • You want Rakuten Turbo, or lines for family tooemployee referral only.
About the sources for this table. The figures for the employee referral (2162) and the regular referral (1784) come from reading the official campaign rules clause by clause. The Mikitani campaign (2798), however, has no public official campaign page — its terms are only visible through the personal link you receive. The figures above are drawn from the campaign code listed in Rakuten’s official FAQ plus information published in Rakuten’s own community and topics pages, so treat them as indicative. Always confirm the conditions shown on your own link before applying.

Four Downsides, Stated Plainly

It is not all upside. These are worth knowing before you apply.

  • The points take a long time to arrive — they start four months after your referral-login month and are split across three months, so the full amount lands roughly six months out. Not for anyone who wants value immediately.
  • They are time-limited points that expire — valid six months from each grant date. Because they arrive in three parts, you have three separate expiry dates to manage.
  • A lot of campaigns do not stack — meet the conditions of a device special-price campaign or a “20,000 points for first-time sign-up” offer and that one takes priority, forfeiting the referral points.
  • Five lines is the ceiling — a single Rakuten ID can hold up to 10 lines, but only 5 can earn this reward.

Flip it around and the profile it suits is clear: people who can wait half a year, and people who expect to add more lines later. For them it currently leaves the least on the table.

Which campaigns stack with this one

The official rules spell out exactly what stacks and what does not.

CategoryCampaign
StacksSaikyo Plan + eligible iPhone purchase discount (2169) / MNP + eligible iPhone purchase discount (2568) / 15-minute call package free for 1 month (1977)
Does not stack
(that one takes priority)
Android device special-price campaign (2178) / Rakuten original device special-price campaign (2808) / the “20,000 points for first-time sign-up” campaigns

It pairs especially well with buying an iPhone — the 14,000 referral points and the iPhone device discount can both apply. Conversely, if you meet the conditions of a device special-price campaign (Android or Rakuten original) or a “20,000 points for first-time sign-up” campaign, only that one applies and the referral points are forfeited. Rule of thumb: first-timers take the 20,000pt campaign when it’s running; second lines and returning customers should use this referral.

Note that the stackable/non-stackable list changes often, as does which campaigns are live. Check the official campaign rules right before you apply.

How to Join — 4 Steps

STEP1STEP2STEP3

What to Prepare Before Applying

With these three things on hand, the Rakuten Mobile application takes about 10 minutes.

  • Photo ID (driver’s licence, My Number card, etc.). The name and address on the document must match your Rakuten member profile — if you moved and never updated the address on your Rakuten ID, this is where you get stuck.
  • Your Rakuten member ID and password — it must be the same ID you use for the referral login.
  • A credit card or bank account for the payment method.

For number portability, you do not need an MNP reservation number if your current carrier supports MNP One Stop. 34 carriers are covered — including docomo, au, SoftBank, ahamo, UQ mobile, povo, Y!mobile, LINEMO, mineo and IIJmio — so the whole switch is handled on the Rakuten Mobile side. Only carriers outside that list still require a reservation number. If you don’t have a Rakuten Card yet, check the Rakuten Card sign-up guide first so you don’t miss the referral bonus for applying to both together.

1

Log in with your Rakuten ID via the referral link

Tapping the button below (the referral URL) opens Rakuten’s login screen. Logging in with your Rakuten ID is what completes your entry, and a confirmation email arrives at your registered address. You do not have to continue to the application right away — doing the login on its own is fine. Forgot to log in first? You can still qualify by logging in within 7 days of applying (inclusive).

Critical: applying without the referral login = not eligible
2

Apply for Rakuten Mobile

After logging in, you simply apply on the Rakuten Mobile site — there is no field for a campaign code. Apply for Rakuten Saikyo Plan, Saikyo U-NEXT, or Rakuten Turbo — online or at a Rakuten Mobile shop. New lines, MNP, and migrations from docomo/au-network legacy plans all qualify.

3

Activate your plan

Activating your SIM/eSIM (or receiving your device) counts as starting the plan.

Deadline: 23:59 on the last day of the second month after your referral login
4

Make a 10-second call on Rakuten Link

Place an outgoing call from the free Rakuten Link app and talk for 10+ seconds — landlines are fine. For applications from March 2, 2026 onward, the Link condition is mandatory.

Same deadline / calls to 0570 & 188 do not count

Note: Rakuten Turbo has its own qualifying conditions

If you apply for the Rakuten Turbo home router, the conditions differ from the 4 steps above. The official rules define a separate condition set for Turbo; meet the following and you qualify for 7,000 points (once per person).

  • Log in with your Rakuten ID via the referral link — this step is the same (within 7 days of applying also works).
  • Apply for the “Rakuten Turbo” plan and the “Rakuten Turbo 5G” device together — a plan-only application does not qualify.
  • Let 9 days pass, counting from whichever comes first: your activation date or the device delivery date — so don’t cancel right after it arrives.
  • No Rakuten Link call needed — Turbo is data-only, so Step 4’s call condition does not apply.

Pair it with a Rakuten Saikyo Plan phone line and you can also stack Turbo-specific campaigns such as the Saikyo Home Program (1,000pt back monthly).

Tip: log in early in the month. The deadline is fixed at “the last day of the second month after your referral login.” Log in on August 1 and you have until October 31 — roughly three months. Log in on August 31 and the deadline is still October 31 — barely two. Given shipping times and activation, getting the login done in the first half of the month is the safer play.

When Do the Points Arrive?

Counting from your referral-login month, points arrive around the end of months 4, 5, and 6, in three parts.

Point grant schedule (source: Rakuten Mobile official)
Point grant schedule (source: Rakuten Mobile official)
Example: referral login in JulyAmount (MNP case)
Late November (1st)4,000pt
Late December (2nd)5,000pt
Late January (3rd)5,000pt

These are time-limited points (valid 6 months) — forget about them and they simply expire. The easiest way to burn them is to aim at a larger purchase you were going to make anyway:

  • Rakuten Shopping Marathon — buy in bulk while the multiplier is high. See the full Marathon guide, and the points simulator to estimate your return before you buy.
  • Rakuten Furusato Nozei — put them toward a hometown-tax donation. Start with the Furusato Nozei guide.
  • Rakuten Pay and your Rakuten Mobile bill — routing them into everyday spending guarantees you use them up.

Points Not Showing Up? How to Check Your Pending Points

Points for this campaign only start four months after your referral login month, so there is inevitably a stretch where it feels like nothing is happening. You can confirm whether the payout is actually queued in Rakuten PointClub.

  • Log in to Rakuten PointClub with your Rakuten ID
  • Open “ポイント実績” (Point Activity)
  • Look for this campaign under “獲得予定ポイント” (Pending points)

Rakuten’s official FAQ explicitly lists the employee referral campaign (code 2162) as one of the campaigns whose pending points appear here, and states they show up no later than 3 days before the scheduled payout date. So if nothing appears by then, one of the conditions most likely was not met.

The three things to check first. (1) You never logged in via the referral link, or more than 8 days passed. (2) You did not place a 10-second-plus outgoing call on the Rakuten Link app — mandatory for applications from March 2, 2026. (3) The Rakuten ID you logged in with differs from the one on the contract. See the 10 pitfalls for the full list.

Rakuten also notes that even when pending points are displayed, reflection can take extra time after the payout date. Waiting a few days before contacting support is usually the right move.

Applied Without Clicking the Referral Link First?

The short answer: if you log in through the referral link with your Rakuten ID within 7 days of the application (counting the application day itself), it still counts retroactively — this applies to applications from January 23, 2024 onward. So if you have already applied, there is a good chance you are still in time.

Count the days first. The window is 7 days including the application date — apply on August 1 and you have until the end of August 7. Once 8 days have passed you are permanently ineligible, with no way to recover it. Logging in the moment you notice is the only fix.
  • Use the same Rakuten ID you applied with. Logging in with a different ID does not qualify.
  • If you applied without a Rakuten ID at all, you must also upgrade to a Rakuten member account by 23:59 on the last day of the month after you applied.
  • For logins made after applying, the official rules state that Rakuten may ask for evidence that you genuinely forgot to log in first.
Tap here → log in with your Rakuten ID nowAlready applied? You still have 7 days from the application date.

10 Pitfalls That Disqualify You

  • Applying without the referral login — you can rescue it by logging in within 7 days of applying; 8+ days means permanently ineligible.
  • Signing up outside official channels — only contracts made at a Rakuten Mobile shop, the Rakuten Mobile website, or the official Rakuten Ichiba store count. Applying at an electronics retailer’s counter does not qualify.
  • Applying without a Rakuten ID — you must then upgrade to a Rakuten member account by 23:59 on the last day of the month after you applied, or you lose eligibility.
  • Buying a Wi-Fi router together with your plan application — excluded due to legal caps. Want home internet? Consider Rakuten Turbo instead.
  • Skipping the Rakuten Link call — it must be an outgoing call from the Rakuten Link app, 10+ seconds. Calls to 0570 (navi-dial) and 188 don’t count.
  • Different Rakuten IDs — the ID used for the referral login and the application must match.
  • Missing the activation deadline — delivery delays are not excused; apply early.
  • Switching from Data Type to the Saikyo Plan — if you contract the Saikyo Plan (Data Type) and then change to the Saikyo Plan, you are not eligible.
  • Repeated short-term cancellations — flagged as point farming; you may be disqualified or have points clawed back.
  • Letting time-limited points expire — they vanish 6 months after each grant; put the grant months in your calendar.

You are also ineligible if you have unpaid charges, or if you leave the Rakuten membership before the points are granted. And if several people refer you, only the referrer whose link you logged in through first counts.

Change Log — What Changed and When

“Has the employee referral been nerfed?” comes up a lot, so here is a timeline of changes Rakuten Mobile itself announced — no speculation (the official page is marked as current as of August 3, 2026). The entry period is still listed with no end date announced.

WhenWhat changedEffect
Dec 5, 2023Campaign launched (web from 9:00; stores from opening)Neutral
From Jan 23, 2024Applying first is no longer fatal — the referral login counts if done within 7 days including the application dateEasier
From Feb 1, 2024Point award increasedEasier
From Jun 1, 2024New cap: maximum 5 lines per personStricter
From Nov 1, 2024Payout stretched to 12 monthly instalments starting 4 months later (500pt ×11 + 2,500pt)Stricter
From Dec 1, 2024Payout back to 3 months; Turbo and the data-only plan explicitly listed as eligibleEasier
From Sep 1, 2025Payout runs 4 months after the referral-login month, over 3 months (current)Neutral
From Oct 1, 2025Rakuten Saikyo U-NEXT added as an eligible planEasier
From Mar 2, 2026, 9:00A call of 10+ seconds placed from the Rakuten Link app became mandatoryStricter
From Mar 5, 2026New applications for Rakuten Saikyo Plan (data type) suspendedStricter

Two things people misread. The Rakuten Link call requirement applies to Rakuten Saikyo Plan and Rakuten Saikyo U-NEXT. The official terms state the data-type plan does not need the call — but new applications for it have been suspended since March 5, 2026, so it is not a usable loophole today. Rakuten Turbo is governed separately and its qualifying conditions contain no Rakuten Link item (see the note earlier in this article).

FAQ

I had a Rakuten Mobile contract before. Am I still eligible?
Yes. Unlike the regular referral, this employee referral (code 2162) covers re-signings and second lines onwards.
How many times can I use it?
For applications since June 1, 2024: up to 5 lines per person (Rakuten Turbo: once per person). Handy for switching the whole family.
I applied before logging in via the referral link. Now what?
Log in via the referral link with your Rakuten ID within 7 days of the application (inclusive) and you still qualify. After 8 days it’s gone — do it as soon as you notice.
When and how are points granted?
Starting 4 months after your referral-login month, in 3 monthly parts around month-end (MNP: 4,000 → 5,000 → 5,000pt). They’re time-limited points valid for 6 months from each grant.
How do I confirm my Rakuten Link call lasted 10 seconds?
Check the call history inside the Rakuten Link app for an outgoing call of 10+ seconds. To be safe, call a landline or family member and chat for 15 seconds.
Does a Rakuten Turbo-only application qualify?
Yes. The Rakuten Turbo home router earns 7,000 points (once per person). Note that the qualifying conditions differ: you must apply for the “Rakuten Turbo” plan and the “Rakuten Turbo 5G” device together, and 9 days must pass from your activation or device delivery date. No Rakuten Link call is required. You can also stack the Saikyo Home Program (1,000pt back monthly) with a phone plan.
Several people referred me. Which referral counts?
The one whose link you logged in through first. Logging in later via someone else’s referral link does not override it.
Can I combine this with the iPhone discount campaigns?
Yes. The eligible-iPhone purchase discounts (codes 2169 and 2568) and the 1-month free 15-minute call package (1977) are officially listed as stackable. However, the Android and Rakuten-original device special-price campaigns do not stack — if one of those applies, the referral points are forfeited.
I closed the browser after logging in via the referral link. Is that a problem?
Closing the browser or losing connection mid-flow can break the referral tracking. To be safe, open the referral link and log in again before continuing your application — repeated logins carry no downside.
Where exactly do I apply from?
Open the referral link on this page, log in with your Rakuten ID, then apply on the Rakuten Mobile site as normal. Applying directly on the official site without going through a referral link makes you ineligible. If you forgot and already applied, logging in within 7 days of the application still counts.
How many lines are covered?
For applications since June 1, 2024, up to 5 lines per person (Rakuten Turbo: once per person). A single Rakuten ID can hold up to 10 lines, but only 5 of them can earn this campaign’s reward.
Do I need to enter a campaign code?
No. The code is 2162, but it is applied automatically the moment you log in via the referral link — there is no field to type it into during the application. Quote the number if you contact support about this campaign.
