Tamba City in Hyogo is holding its first festival built around its farm brand, Tan no Yasai (丹(まごころ)のやさい). The Tan no Yasai Festa (丹(まごころ)のやさいフェスタ) runs for four days, from Thursday, November 5 to Sunday, November 8, 2026, on the lawn of a roadside station in the Kasuga area. Entry is free, about 30 booths open each day, and the farmers themselves do most of the selling.
If you want Tamba black soybeans, Dainagon azuki red beans or chestnuts straight from the people who grow them, this is the week to go. Below is what is on each day, what you can buy and eat, and a few things to check before you set out.

Which day to go: the four themes
Each day has its own theme, so the day you pick changes the experience quite a bit. Saturday is the biggest market day, Friday is the only evening session, and Sunday leans organic and ends with a mochi-throwing finale.
| Day | Theme | Highlights |

| Thu, Nov 5 10:00–15:00 | Opening Market | Opening program Tan no Yasai market Vegetable bag-stuffing (paid) Firewood splitting |

What the farmers sell
The market booths are run by local growers, so you can ask how a vegetable was grown or how they like to cook it while you shop. Seasonal produce is the main draw, and plenty of stalls also sell foods made from their own crops.

| Type | Items |
|---|---|
| Beans and grains | Dainagon azuki beans Black edamame Tamba black edamame Tamba Hikami rice Glutinous rice Peanuts |

Food stalls and dam-aged sake
Local restaurants and shops cook with Tan no Yasai produce in the food area. The one to look for is the Tan anko butter sandwich (丹(まごころ)のあんバターサンド), a new local specialty made with Tamba Dainagon azuki, the variety many long-established Kyoto confectioners use.
| Type | Menu |
|---|---|
| Sweets | Tan anko butter sandwich Zenzai (sweet red bean soup) Tamba chestnuts simmered in their inner skins Farmer-roasted stone-baked sweet potatoes |
| Meals | Organic wheat udon Seasonal curry Tonjiru (pork miso soup) Yam okonomiyaki Tan no Yasai pizza |
| Drinks | Coffee |
On Saturday, November 7 only, there is a limited sale of Sanpo Dam sake. Three sake breweries in Tamba worked with Hyogo Prefecture’s Tamba Kenmin-kyoku on it: sake made from rice such as the Hyogo Sake 85 variety was left to age quietly in a maintenance tunnel at Sanpo Dam, and this is its first release from storage. Quantities are limited, so if it is on your list, Saturday is the day.
Games, stage shows and hands-on events
There is enough here to keep kids busy. A bingo game runs every day, and the prize is a Tan no Yasai vegetable assortment set. Other contests rotate by day, so check the stage schedule on the official page if you are after one in particular.

The community area has free small bags of organic fertilizer sized for planters, made at the city-run Ichijima Organic Center, along with displays on local farming and Tamba tourism. The Marugame City Tourism Association, which has ties to Tamba, also has a special booth. Two mascots, Tamba City’s Chitan the Tamba dinosaur and Hyogo Prefecture’s Habatan, will be there to meet visitors.
About the Tan no Yasai brand
Tan no Yasai is the umbrella brand for farm produce from Tamba City, which has the largest farmland area in Hyogo. It launched in August 2024 with more than 1,000 farmers taking part, a first for the prefecture, and covers over 120 kinds of produce through the seasons. Its tagline translates roughly as rich flavor that carries the growers’ sincerity, the magokoro in the name.
This festa is the first event the brand has run itself since launch. Alongside the Tamba staples of Dainagon azuki, black soybeans, chestnuts and Hikami rice, the area is also known for organic farming, which is why Sunday is set aside as an organic fair.

Tips before you go
- Mind the Friday hours. On November 6 nothing opens in the daytime; the event runs from 16:00 to 20:00 only.
- Check the exhibitor list. Stalls and products change every day, so if you are after something specific, look it up on the official special page first.
- Go early for limited items. The bag-stuffing event and the Sanpo Dam sake are both sold in limited quantities.
- Prices and payment. The press release gives no prices for food, produce or the paid activities, and does not say which payment methods are accepted. Ask the organizer if it matters to you.
Planning more autumn outings? We also covered the Musashino Art University Festival and the Shibaura Canal Festival with its free canal cruises. And if buying straight from regional producers appeals to you, hometown tax donations are another way to get local goods from across Japan; here is what changed in the furusato nozei rules this October.
