Arida Certified Mikan comes to the Chunichi Building
Nov 15–16Arida City, the mikan-growing town in Wakayama Prefecture, is holding a two-day promotional fair in central Nagoya this November. The star is Arida Certified Mikan (有田市認定みかん), the fruit the city puts through a strict inspection before it can carry the name. You can taste it, buy it, and try your luck in a lottery that is open only to visitors. Entry costs nothing.

Event overview: dates, venue and address
The fair runs on a Sunday and the Monday that follows, in the Zenkoku Center Hiroba (全国センター広場), an event space on the 5th floor of the Chunichi Building (中日ビル) in Sakae. The city says the aim is to raise the profile of the brand and find new buyers outside Wakayama.

What makes Arida Certified Mikan special
Arida mikan is already a well-known name in Japan. The certified label narrows it further: only fruit that clears a strict inspection gets it, and the city calls it the highest grade of Arida mikan. The photo below shows judges in suits scoring rows of extra-early satsuma mandarins at one of these inspections.
