Ito Hotel Discount: Up to 20% Off Across 6 Booking Sites

What you actually get

Ito City, on the east coast of the Izu Peninsula, is paying part of your hotel bill again. The first round ran from 1 June to 13 July 2026; this is round two. The official rules fit in three lines:

The line that is easy to miss sits in small print on the official page: there is a minimum room rate per person per night, and both that minimum and the cap are set separately by each booking site. That is the part worth reading carefully, and it is what the rest of this article is about.

Booking the hotel directly does not count. Travel Watch’s report on the campaign states plainly that direct reservations with the property are excluded, so phoning the ryokan or using its own website will not get you the discount.

On scale: Rakuten Travel alone lists 458 participating properties, including the big onsen names such as Pleasure Resort Izu Akazawa Onsen, Ito Hotel Juraku, Ooedo Onsen Monogatari Premium Ito Hotel New Okabe and Ito Onsen Hatoya Hotel.

This is the heart of it. Both the minimum and the cap are per person, per night, so two guests each get their own allowance.

Which site should you use?

Start with your dates, not with the hotel

• 7–23 September: Rakuten Travel only. Everyone else needs a check-in on 24 September or later. Note that Rakuten excludes any booking containing a night on 19–22 September, which in 2026 is Silver Week (the long weekend runs Sat 19 to Wed 23 September). In practice that kills the whole holiday except a check-in on the 23rd.
• 24 September – 30 November: the widest choice (Nippon Travel Agency joins on 14 October). Just remember to skip Jalan if you are staying on a Saturday.
• 1–14 December: Rakuten has finished by 30 November. You are left with Jalan, Ikyu, Yahoo! Travel and Nippon Travel Agency, plus JTB if you check out by 11 December.

The same room, a different discount

Because the floor and the ceiling differ, the same nightly rate produces different savings depending on where you book. Here is 20% capped by each site’s ceiling, per person per night:

How to claim the coupon

1. Fix your dates first, then shortlist the sitesYour check-in date decides which sites are even open to you. Searching for a room first is how people end up with a booking the coupon cannot touch.
2. Wait for the release time, then open that site’s Ito coupon pageThe official campaign page has a “book with …” button for each operator at the bottom. Going through it is the safest way to land on the right page.
3. Claim the coupon before you choose a roomEvery site works the same way: the coupon has to be sitting in your account first. If you book without it, the discount generally cannot be applied afterwards.
4. Check the payment screen, not the room priceLook at the total. Party size, number of nights and whether meals are included all decide whether you clear the minimum rate.
5. Keep the confirmation emailIt is what you show at the front desk if anything does not match.

One practical note if you do not read Japanese: these are the Japanese storefronts of each operator, and the coupon pages are in Japanese. Machine translation in the browser handles them well enough, but claim the coupon and check the total on the original page before you confirm, because translated buttons occasionally hide which price is which.

What is not covered

Stacking rewards on top of the 20%

The city subsidy is a price cut; the points a booking site pays you are a rebate. They do not cancel each other out, so a single reservation can carry three layers: the coupon, the site’s own points, and a cashback site you click through on the way in.

1. What each booking site pays you

• Rakuten Travel — 1% back in Rakuten points on the stay. Separately, one booking of ¥5,000 or more in a month (used by the end of the month after next) is an SPU condition, which lifts your Rakuten Ichiba multiplier by 1x for purchases made in the month you booked, up to 1,000 points a month. The benefit lands on your shopping, not on this hotel bill. Handily, Rakuten’s ¥5,000 floor for this campaign clears that condition by itself.
• Jalan — 1% in Ponta points plus 1% in Jalan-only points, so roughly 2% (you can switch the first one to d POINT). Coupons and points stack: the coupon comes off first, then points apply to the remainder.
• Yahoo! Travel — the site advertises up to 10% off for anyone paying by card in advance. That is a discount, not points, which makes it a strong partner for the subsidy coupon. Points come as PayPay points, with an extra slice for LYP Premium members.
• Ikyu.com — Ikyu points, or PayPay points if you sign in with a Yahoo! JAPAN ID or set PayPay as your reward.

2. The cashback-site layer, which most people skip

Click through a Japanese cashback site (a “point site”) before you reach the booking site and you pick up one more layer. The figures below are what Pointnavi, the rate-comparison site we run ourselves, had on file on 7 September 2026, grouped by what each offer actually covers:

Rates move around, so check the current figure before you click through. Also read the offer’s own conditions: whether a booking made with a coupon still counts is written differently from site to site, and it is the single most common reason cashback fails to appear.

3. How you pay

The last layer is the card. Rakuten Travel pairs with a Rakuten card, Yahoo! Travel with the PayPay ecosystem, JTB with a Rebates click-through. Choosing the site that matches the cards you already hold beats opening a new one for a single trip. A quick word on Ito itself

Ito is an onsen town on the east coast of the Izu Peninsula, and the easy part is getting there: the Odoriko limited express runs from Tokyo Station without a change in about one hour and 45 minutes (Odoriko 1 leaves Tokyo at 9:00 and arrives at 10:43). You can also take the Shinkansen to Atami and switch to the JR Ito Line. Leave after a slow breakfast and you are there before lunch.

• Mount Omuro — a grass-covered volcanic cone formed about 4,000 years ago, with a chairlift to the rim. On a clear day you can see Mount Fuji, the Southern Alps, Izu Oshima and the Boso Peninsula. The grass is burned off every February.
• Jogasaki Coast — the lava from that same eruption ran into the sea and made this coastline. There is a walking trail of roughly nine kilometres and the Kadowaki suspension bridge, 48 metres long and about 23 metres above the water.
• Kinmedai (splendid alfonsino) — the local fish, usually served simmered in soy and sugar. It is a deep-water species caught at 200–400 metres and it is at its best from December to February, which is exactly where the tail end of this campaign lands.

FAQ

Do I have to be a resident of Japan, or of Shizuoka?

The official page defines the target simply as people staying in Ito City, with no residency or nationality requirement. There is nothing on it resembling the prefecture-only rules used by earlier Japanese travel campaigns. If an individual booking site adds its own conditions, what is written on its coupon page takes precedence.

Can I book through Booking.com or Agoda?

No. Only Rakuten Travel, Jalan, Ikyu.com, Yahoo! Travel, JTB and Nippon Travel Agency issue these coupons, and booking directly with the property is excluded as well.

When does it end?

The official period runs to 14 December 2026, but each site stops on its own date: Rakuten Travel at check-out on 30 November, JTB on 11 December, and Jalan, Ikyu, Yahoo! Travel and Nippon Travel Agency on 14 December. The real deadline can be earlier still, because coupons stop when the budget is gone.

Are Izu Kogen and Kawana included? What about Atami?

Izu Kogen and Kawana are both part of Ito City, so yes: JTB even names its coupon page “for Ito Onsen, Izu Kogen and Kawana”. Atami and Izunokuni are separate municipalities and are not covered.

How much comes off for two people?

The cap is per person per night, so two people staying two nights could in theory save ¥5,000 × 2 × 2 = ¥20,000, assuming each person’s nightly rate is high enough to reach the cap and the budget has not run out. Jalan’s cap of ¥4,000 changes the maths.

Can I combine it with other coupons?

It varies by site, and each coupon page spells out whether stacking is allowed; Jalan advertised “up to three coupon types can be combined” in round one. The reliable move is to look at the payment total before you confirm rather than assume.

What changed since round one?

Round one ran from 1 June to 13 July 2026. This time the window is longer, 7 September to 14 December, and the official page lists six booking routes (JTB’s Rurubu site gets its own release date). The big change is that the eligible dates now differ from site to site, whereas round one lined them up.
