Nakau Launches the Limited-Time “Unagi Gokaimori”
Nakau (Nakau Co., Ltd. / Zensho Holdings), the well-known chain serving rice bowls and Kyoto-style udon, will release a lavish new dish, the “Unagi Gokaimori” (2,280 yen incl. tax), from 11:00 AM on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, for a limited time. Ahead of the Day of the Ox (July 26), this dish answers customers’ wish to savor eel to their heart’s content.
A Whole Eel (Three Fillets) Piled High
The “Unagi Gokaimori” uses a whole eel’s worth (three fillets), making it a truly indulgent dish. Piled generously over a large serving of rice, the eel overflows the bowl for maximum visual impact and impressive eating satisfaction — perfect for those who want to enjoy eel in abundance.
Nakau’s Meticulously Prepared Eel
Nakau’s eel is slow-grilled and then carefully steamed, removing excess fat to concentrate its rich flavor. The fillets are then glazed with sauce and grilled three times over, producing a kabayaki that is fragrant and crisp on the outside yet soft and fluffy inside. This painstaking process brings out the eel’s natural deliciousness to the fullest.
Paired with Nakau’s original “Special Kyoto-Style Sansho Pepper,” the eel’s savory richness gains a refreshing accent, keeping every bite enjoyable to the very last.
