Since October 28, 2026, Rakuten Card works with Google Pay contactless (tap-to-pay) on Android phones. To celebrate, Rakuten Card is giving 200 Rakuten points every time you tap to pay with a Rakuten Card in Google Pay. Any payment of ¥200 or more (tax included) counts as one, up to 10 payments, or 2,000 points in total. Ten small purchases of ¥200 each would mean ¥2,000 spent and 2,000 points back.

The catch: payments that go through QUICPay don’t count, and neither do JCB Rakuten Cards or family cards. Below we go through the official terms: how to enter, how to set up Google Pay, and the easy ways to miss out.

The cap is per person. No matter how many Rakuten Cards or phones you use, it’s 200 points per payment and 2,000 points in total, counted by the Rakuten ID linked to your card.

Three steps to the full 2,000 points

There are only three things to do, in any order.

  1. 1. Enter the campaignOn Rakuten Card’s campaign page, tap “エントリーはこちらから” (Enter here) and log in to Rakuten e-NAVI to enter. Payments you made before entering still count, as long as you enter by December 31.
  2. 2. Add your Rakuten Card to Google WalletOpen the Google Wallet app, tap “Add to Wallet” and then “Credit or debit card,” enter your card details and finish the identity check. You can also jump to Google Wallet from the “Google Pay” button on the Home or Menu screen of the Rakuten Card app. Your phone needs Android 9.0 or later.
  3. 3. Tap to pay ¥200 or more, 10 timesAt the register, say “kurejitto de” (by credit) or “tacchi kessai de” (by contactless), then hold your phone to the reader. You don’t need to open any app first. If you say “kuikku pei de,” the payment goes through QUICPay and won’t count.
Already using Rakuten Card in Google Pay for QUICPay? Rakuten Card says you need to register the card separately to use contactless (tap-to-pay) payments (October 28 announcement).

Why ¥200 payments pay off the most

The 200 points are per payment, not per yen. So the closer each payment is to ¥200, the better your return.

Payment (tax incl.)Campaign pointsReturn
¥200200100%
¥50020040%
¥1,00020020%
¥3,000200about 6.7%

Rather than one big shop, spread small purchases (a few hundred yen at a convenience store, for example) over 10 visits. On top of the campaign points, Google Pay spending still earns the usual Rakuten Card points (1 point per ¥100).

The campaign runs for about two months, so one or two taps a week is enough to reach 10. Other cashless deals run at the same time, such as teppay’s 20% back campaign.

Payments that don’t count (and common mistakes)

  • Paying with QUICPay by mistakeA Rakuten Card in Google Pay can pay by contactless or by QUICPay. If you say “kuikku pei de” or pick QUICPay at a self-checkout, it won’t count. Choose “credit” first, then tap.
  • Adding a JCB Rakuten CardJCB works with Google Pay contactless, but this campaign only counts Visa and Mastercard.
  • Paying with a family cardSpending by family card members isn’t counted.
  • Paying less than ¥200¥199 or less (tax incl.) doesn’t count as a payment. Check the tax-included total if you’re close.
  • Paying with Rakuten Pay’s “Rakuten Card Touch Payment”The tap-to-pay feature set up in the Rakuten Pay app is a separate service from Google Pay. If you have both, set Google Wallet as the default contactless payment app in your phone’s NFC settings (menu names vary by phone).
  • Leaving it to New Year’s EveEligibility is judged by the usage date on your statement, and at some stores that date can differ from the day you paid. Better not to wait until December 31.
  • Missing a card paymentIf the bill in the month before the points are added isn’t paid on time, you won’t get them. If you hold several Rakuten Cards, all of them must be paid on time.
  • Canceling the purchaseCanceled payments don’t count.

Rakuten Pay’s “Rakuten Card Touch Payment” is ending

Until now, Android users tapped to pay with Rakuten Card through “Rakuten Card Touch Payment” (楽天カードタッチ決済), set up in the Rakuten Pay app. That service is ending and Google Pay is taking over. The timeline:

  1. Sep 16, 2026Rakuten Card announces the end of Rakuten Card Touch Payment and a move to a new wallet service
  2. Sep 30, 1 p.m.New sign-ups for Rakuten Card Touch Payment close
  3. Oct 28Rakuten Card (Visa, Mastercard, JCB) starts working with Google Pay contactless
  4. Nov 2 – Dec 31This campaign (200 points per tap, up to 10)
  5. Mid-January to mid-February 2027Rakuten Card Touch Payment ends (exact date to be announced)

Rakuten Card is encouraging Rakuten Card Touch Payment users to switch to Google Pay. If you have to switch anyway, switching during the campaign earns you points too. QUICPay in Google Pay keeps working, and so does Apple Pay on iPhone (but only Google Pay contactless counts for this campaign).

Only have JCB or Amex, or no Rakuten Card yet?

Only Visa and Mastercard Rakuten Cards are eligible. If your first card is JCB or American Express, you can’t join as is. You can hold a second Rakuten Card, and Rakuten Card itself notes that Amex holders can use Google Pay by applying for a Visa, Mastercard or JCB card as their second card. For this campaign, pick Visa or Mastercard.

Don’t have a Rakuten Card yet? Our Rakuten Card guide covers the sign-up bonus and how referrals work. The standard Rakuten Card, which has no annual fee, is eligible for this campaign.
