Nankai Railway Extends Credit Card Touch Payment Daily Cap Discount Until July 31
Nankai Electric Railway has announced the extension of its Credit Card Daily Cap Discount Service, allowing fare cap discounts via contactless credit card payments, from April 1 to July 31, 2026. Originally launched as a demonstration experiment in December 2025, the service has been well-received, and the cap amount has been revised to align with planned ticket price adjustments.
How the Service Works
When passengers use the same contactless payment card—or a smartphone linked to that card—on Nankai Railway lines, any portion of the daily total fare exceeding the cap is automatically discounted. No advance purchase or registration is required; simply tap at the ticket gate.
Cap Amount Update
- Cap Amount: 2,300 yen (revised in line with ticket price adjustments)
- Discount Method: Any amount above 2,300 yen on the same day is discounted
- Eligible Media: Contactless payment cards or smartphones linked to such cards
Discount Example: Namba to Koyasan Round Trip
- Standard fare (round trip): 2,860 yen
- Cap amount: 2,300 yen
- Discount: 560 yen
Eligible Lines and Stations
The service applies to all Nankai Railway lines, available at 97 of the 105 stations equipped with contactless payment gates. Major stations including Namba, Shin-Imamiya, Tengachaya, Kansai Airport, Rinku Town, Wakayamashi, and Koyasan are all covered.
Important Notes
- Even with the same card number, transactions via different media (card vs. smartphone) are not combined
- Other operators (such as Semboku Rapid Railway) are not eligible
- Some special tickets like Smart Sukikippu are excluded
- No child fare setting (adult fares only)
Implementation Period
- Extension Period: April 1, 2026 – July 31, 2026
- Original trial start: December 2025
Summary
Nankai Railway’s touch payment cap discount is especially beneficial for long-distance trips such as visits to Koyasan or Kansai Airport transfers. With no advance purchase required and automatic discount application, the service is highly convenient for tourists. For details, please check the official Nankai Railway website.
