The top-up itself pays 5.0% (the usual 0.5% plus a 4.5% bonus, no entry needed). Push the balance further down the route and you add another 0.6% — roughly ¥5,600 of value on a ¥100,000 month.

The short version
  • The offer: on 7 and 14 August 2026 only, topping up FamiPay with a Famima Card earns the standard 0.5% plus a 4.5% bonus — 5.0% in Famima Points.
  • How much: credit-card top-ups are capped at ¥100,000 per day and ¥100,000 per month. With a full month’s allowance that is ¥100,000 across the two days → ¥5,000 in points. Run the balance through the full route and you reach 5.6% ≈ ¥5,600 of value.
  • Hard requirement: your Famima Card must be linked (renkei) to FamiPay, and that link has to be verifiable as of 31 August — otherwise nothing counts.
  • The real question is the exit: what you do with the balance afterwards. Five exits are mapped out below.
  • Lucky overlap: both 7 and 14 August fall on a Friday, which is when FamiPay runs its “+10% on selected POSA gift cards” promotion.

Pocket Card, the issuer behind the Famima Card, is running something short but refreshingly simple: on 7 and 14 August only, topping up FamiPay by credit card with a Famima Card earns 4.5% in bonus Famima Points on top of the usual 0.5%. No lottery, no entry form, no cap on the number of top-ups — it is purely a function of how much you move.

One thing worth being clear about: what you receive are Famima Points, not cash back. The good news is that one point equals ¥1 and they are applied to your FamiPay payments automatically — no manual redemption step. The bad news is that this batch is the “limited-time” flavour with roughly five months of shelf life, so it pays to decide how you will spend them before they land. (For how FamiPay’s rewards work in general — top-up methods, deferred payment, POSA cards — see the FamiPay guide for foreigners.)

Where the 5.0% comes from

The Famima Card is normally a discount-at-billing card rather than a points card: 3% off at FamilyMart stores, rising to 5% once you link it to FamiPay, and 1% off at other JCB merchants. Top-ups are explicitly excluded from those discounts — instead they earn a flat 0.5% in Famima Points.

This campaign works on that 0.5% layer, adding 4.5% on top for two days only.

That table covers only the top-up leg. Push the same ¥100,000 all the way to Mobile Suica and you pick up a further 100 JAL miles and 500 ANA miles, for a combined 5.6% ≈ ¥5,600 of value (see section 5).

¥100,000 is the allowance for all of August, not per day
  • The credit top-up limit is ¥100,000 per month. Anything you topped up between 1 and 6 August has already eaten into it.
  • So the two days together are worth at most ¥100,000 × 5% = ¥5,000. It is not ¥100,000 each day.
  • If you want the full amount, avoid using this card for other top-ups earlier in the month.

The prerequisite: linking Famima Card to FamiPay

There is one easily-missed hard condition: the system has to be able to confirm your FamiPay link as of 31 August 2026. Without it, the 4.5% will not arrive even if the top-up went through perfectly.

What kind of card is the Famima Card?

IssuerPocket Card Co., Ltd. (in partnership with FamilyMart)
NetworkJCB
At FamilyMart stores3% off, rising to 5% off once linked to FamiPay (applied automatically at billing)
Other JCB merchants1% off
FamiPay top-ups0.5% in Famima Points (excluded from the discount)
ExceptionsTobacco, tickets, the FamilyMart online store and Apple Pay payments are 1%
HistoryBenefits switched over for existing members on 1 September 2025; new applications opened 1 October 2025 (it replaced the Famima T Card)

Linking is done inside the FamiPay app: My Page → Settings → Account Settings → Famima Card linkage, then enter your FamiPay PIN, log in to the card’s member site, and type the six-digit code emailed to you. Update the app to the latest version first — older builds tend to stall at this step.

Do the identity check while you are at it

Your FamiPay balance is capped at ¥100,000 before identity verification and ¥300,000 after. If you plan to move ¥100,000 in and already hold an older balance, you will hit the ceiling. Verification is handled in-app around the clock and only needs doing once.

The route map: where the money comes from and goes

The hard part of an offer like this is never the topping up — it is spending the ¥100,000 afterwards. FamiPay balance cannot be withdrawn as cash, so if you only drip it away at the konbini it could take half a year for that ¥5,000 to become real. Start with the trunk:

Famima CardJCB, issued by Pocket Card
FamiPay balanceCap ¥100,000 (¥300,000 after ID check)

↓ from here it branches — pick one (or several)

Exit A Just spend it at FamilyMart

The path of least effort. FamiPay payments themselves still earn the standard 0.5%, and points are applied automatically with no redemption step. New to Japan’s points ecosystem? Start with the point sites guide.

+0.5%
Exit B Top up Mobile Suica directly

Built into the FamiPay app (Services → Mobile Suica top-up). ¥1,000–¥10,000 per transaction, and your Suica balance must stay at or below ¥20,000 afterwards. Limited-time Famima Points work here too, which effectively turns them into money you can spend anywhere. For what to do once it is on your Suica, see the JRE POINT guide.

+0% (best liquidity)
Exit C Buy POSA gift cards on a Friday

FamiPay’s standing promotion gives +10% on selected POSA gift cards bought with FamiPay every Friday. Both 7 and 14 August are Fridays, so you can stack it the same day you top up. Capped at ¥10,000 of rewards per month, and the eligible product list changes — check the in-app notice before buying.

+10% (¥10,000/month cap)
Exit D Pay bills (utilities and taxes)

Scan the barcode on a payment slip, or an eL-QR code for local taxes, and settle it from your FamiPay balance. The reward is a flat ¥10 per payment rather than a percentage, but the amounts are large enough to clear a balance quickly.

¥10 per bill

If what you want is “reliable and low-effort”, exits A and B are enough: take the 5%, then move the balance onto Mobile Suica so it behaves like cash. Only read on if you want to squeeze the last fraction out of it.

The advanced route, leg by leg (5.6% / 5.1%)

FamiPay automatically issues a JCB-branded “FamiPay Virtual Card” — a prepaid card whose spending limit is your FamiPay balance. Register that card number with JAL Pay and you can move the balance onward, shaving a thin layer off each leg.

FamiPay Virtual CardJCB prepaid, issued automatically in-app
JAL PayMastercard prepaid, free, JMB members aged 12+
ANA PayVisa prepaid + iD, free, AMC members
Mobile SuicaEnd of the line: fares, konbini, vending machines
Total 5.6%au PAY branch = 5.1%

Branch: JAL Pay can also top up au PAY directly (+0.1%), but au PAY caps third-party credit-card top-ups at ¥50,000 per month, so treat it as an overflow channel.

Value
≈ ¥5,600

Note that the extra 0.6% arrives as JAL and ANA miles, not cash and not Famima Points. The table values a mile at ¥1, which is a rough convention: redeemed against award flights a mile is usually worth more, converted to e-money it can be worth less.

The advanced route is at your own risk
  • It is not a blessed use case: FamiPay’s own documentation lists e-money top-ups and prepaid-card top-ups as excluded uses for the Virtual Card. It works for most people in practice, but it can be blocked at any time, or reversed after the fact.
  • Routes like this are shrinking fast: JAL Pay cut mileage on third-party top-ups from 0.5% to 0.1% in December 2025, and from August 2026 other issuers have zeroed out points on third-party top-ups entirely. What works today may not survive the month.
  • Every extra hop is another place to get stuck: if a leg fails, the money sits in a wallet — and FamiPay, JAL Pay and ANA Pay all lack cash withdrawal.
  • In short: this suits people who were going to spend those balances anyway. Locking ¥100,000 across four apps for 0.6% is not a good trade.

If you have not opened au PAY yet, registering via au PAY gets you ¥300. The same “top up, then find the exit” logic is worked through at greater length in the Eraberu Gift × au PAY route guide.

Something worth more than chasing that 0.6%

Moving ¥100,000 through four apps nets you about ¥600 worth of miles. If miles and points are what you actually want, card sign-up bonuses are an order of magnitude bigger — the AMEX Gold Preferred (up to 170,000 points via referral) or the Marriott Bonvoy AMEX referral offer (up to 110,000 points; the card’s own fees, perks and break-even maths are in the full Marriott AMEX guide). One approval is worth two or three years of shuffling balances.

So the sensible plan is: take the full 5.0% on these two days — that is the certain money and the main course here — and treat the multi-hop route as something you do because you were spending the balance anyway, not as a reason to open four new accounts.

How it compares with the alternatives

Laid side by side with the other common plays in the FamilyMart ecosystem, it is clear where these two days sit.

The conclusion is clean: the main course is the 5.0% on the top-up itself, with the Friday POSA promotion as the side dish. Top up on 7 August to bank the 5%, then use that freshly-loaded balance to buy an eligible POSA card for another 0.5% + 10% — the tidiest double-stack available on these two days. The multi-hop route contributes roughly 0.6% and belongs in the “if you have the appetite” category. Incidentally, the other main line for konbini spending is the SMBC Card (NL) — use that at 7-Eleven and Lawson, and this one at FamilyMart.

Other FamiPay promotions are running alongside in August

Through August, FamiPay is also running its usual lottery-style Famima Point rewards and daily in-app games. These do not conflict with the top-up campaign, so ordinary shopping at FamilyMart after topping up may pick them up as well. The in-app notices are the authoritative source for eligible products and dates.

What to do on the day

  1. Before the day: confirm the linkFamiPay app → My Page → Settings → Account Settings, and check that Famima Card shows as linked. If not, link it now (update the app first). This has to be verifiable by 31 August.
  2. Before the day: complete identity verificationRaises your FamiPay balance ceiling from ¥100,000 to ¥300,000 so you do not hit the wall mid-top-up. Handled in-app, 24 hours a day.
  3. Before the day: check what you have already used in AugustThe credit top-up limit is ¥100,000 per month. Whatever is left is your real ceiling for the 5%.
  4. On 7 or 14 August: top upFamiPay app → Charge → Credit card, enter the amount and confirm. You can split it across both days as long as the total stays inside the monthly allowance.
  5. Same day (Friday): stack the POSA promotionUse the balance you just loaded to buy an eligible POSA card at FamilyMart with FamiPay for another 0.5% + 10%. The eligible list changes, so check the in-app notice first.
  6. Decide on an exitAnything you will not spend soon can go to Mobile Suica via the in-app top-up (¥1,000–¥10,000 per transaction, Suica balance ¥20,000 or less), or clear utility and tax bills with the bill-payment feature.
  7. Late October: check the payout and use itPoints land around the end of October and are limited-time (valid until the last day of the fifth month after issue). Set a reminder so they do not expire unused.

Cautions and gotchas

Read these before you start
  • Only credit-card top-ups count: cash at the register, bank transfers and Apple Pay top-ups are all excluded.
  • ¥100,000 is monthly, not daily: 7 and 14 August share the same allowance.
  • Cancelled top-ups do not count.
  • You receive limited-time points: valid until the last day of the fifth month after issue. With a late-October payout that means roughly the end of March. Fractions below one point are rounded down.
  • You must still hold the card when points are issued: cancel before late October and you get nothing.
  • FamiPay balance cannot be withdrawn as cash: decide on an exit before you lock up money you need.
  • Officially, newcomers can still make it: apply through the FamiPay app and, once the card is issued, “instant charge” is registered automatically (identity verification is required for that). Pocket Card also notes that screening and issuance can take time, so apply early.
  • The advanced route is at your own risk: prepaid-to-prepaid top-ups are not an approved use case.

One common-sense note to close on: multi-hop top-ups are ultimately just moving your own money between wallets, and are not a cash-out mechanism. Providers take a consistently dim view of cash-extraction patterns, and a frozen account with your balance inside it is the real cost. Keeping to amounts you were going to spend anyway is the safest way to run this.

FAQ

Do I need to register or enter?

No. Simply topping up FamiPay by credit card with a Famima Card on 7 or 14 August 2026 qualifies automatically.

If I top up on both days, do I get the bonus twice?

Yes, but they share one allowance. Credit-card top-ups are capped at ¥100,000 per month, so the two days together are worth at most ¥100,000 — about ¥5,000 in Famima Points. Run that ¥100,000 through the advanced route (→ JAL Pay → ANA Pay → Mobile Suica) and the combined figure is roughly 5.6%, or about ¥5,600 of value, with the extra arriving as JAL and ANA miles.

When do the points arrive, and do they expire?

They are scheduled for around the end of October 2026 as limited-time Famima Points, valid until the last day of the fifth month after issue. One point equals ¥1 and they are applied to your FamiPay payments automatically — no redemption needed.

Can I still apply for a Famima Card in time?

Pocket Card states on the campaign page that people who do not yet hold the card can still make it: apply through the FamiPay app and, once issued, the “instant charge” setting is registered automatically so you can top up straight away (identity verification is required). The steps are: (1) download the FamiPay app, (2) choose “Famima Card” under Services, (3) follow the on-screen application, (4) automatic registration once issued. Screening and issuance can take time, though, so aim early if you want 7 August — otherwise 14 August is the fallback.

Can I move the FamiPay balance to Suica?

Yes. The FamiPay app includes a Mobile Suica top-up feature: ¥1,000–¥10,000 per transaction, with your Suica balance staying at or below ¥20,000 afterwards. There is no extra reward on this leg, but it is the most liquid exit, and limited-time Famima Points can be used for it.

Is the FamiPay → JAL Pay → ANA Pay route safe?

Technically it works for most people, but FamiPay’s own documentation lists e-money and prepaid-card top-ups as excluded uses of the Virtual Card, which makes it a grey area that could be closed at any time. Rates on these legs also keep falling (JAL Pay’s third-party top-up mileage went from 0.5% to 0.1%). Judge the risk for yourself.
