Terrace Mall Shonan (テラスモール湘南), the big shopping center right next to JR Tsujido Station in Fujisawa, Kanagawa, turns 15 this year. To mark the anniversary, it is running a blue-themed Christmas illumination called Our Blue Xmas from Wednesday, November 11 to Friday, December 25, 2026.
What sets this one apart is that visitors can write a message on a heart-shaped ornament in October, and those ornaments are then hung on the trees when the lights come on. Here is what to expect, when to go and how to take part.

What you will see: an 8 m tree and a 15-minute light show
The centerpiece is a main tree about 8 m tall, surrounded by three smaller trees of about 3 m each. Beyond the plaza, the blue lighting continues through 1F Gate Square, Shonan Village and the 2F deck and terraces, so the whole complex glows blue after dark.
If you only have time for one thing, catch the light show. Once every 15 minutes, the string lights on the main tree change color in sync with music. The show runs from 17:00 to 21:00, while the lights themselves stay on until 23:00.
The idea behind the blue lights
Terrace Mall Shonan opened in November 2011, and this year marks its 15th anniversary. The anniversary message is Update Our Blue Pride, and blue was chosen to represent the sea and sky of Shonan.
The mall describes the illumination as a thank-you for 15 years alongside the local community, built together with the people who visit. So the decorations are not all store-bought: many of the hearts on the trees will carry messages written by visitors.
Write your own heart ornament (Oct 19–31)
Before the lights go on, the mall is running an ornament project called LIGHT OUR BLUE PRIDE. From Monday, October 19 to Saturday, October 31, 2026, special booths inside the mall let you write a message on a heart-shaped ornament. Taking part is free.

Messages fall under the anniversary’s three action themes, and the ornaments go on three differently colored trees, one per theme:
- Get to know Shonan better
- Pass on rich nature to the future
- Start a new wave
What happens to the trees afterward
In keeping with its goal of passing nature on to future generations, the mall is also recycling and upcycling materials for the event:
- The acrylic plates used for the messages are made from recycled acrylic.
- After the display ends, the fir trees are planned to be processed into wood chips and similar items and given back to customers.

Terrace Mall Shonan is directly connected to the north exit of JR Tsujido Station (辻堂駅北口). On the Tokaido Line it takes about 25 minutes from Yokohama and about 29 minutes from Odawara (normal daytime service).

Tips for your visit
- Want the show? Arrive before 21:00. The music and light show only runs from 17:00 to 21:00. A later visit still gets you the lights, but not the color changes.
- Two trips make it more personal. Write an ornament between October 19 and 31, then come back after November 11 to find the tree with your theme color.
- Check the official site after October 14. The special site goes live that day, so look there for any updates before you go.
