Oto Illumi: the music and light show

Oto Illumi debuted last year and returns by popular demand. The music and music videos of five artists play alongside the lights in a show lasting about seven minutes. The set is built around a large treble clef monument, surrounded by glowing music-themed pieces such as a piano, a bus shelter and balloon lights floating on a musical staff.

It isn’t only the set that lights up. The illuminated mountain slope behind the monument, the Rainbow Lift and the Ferris wheel all move in time with the show, so the whole hillside becomes part of the stage.

Night rides and attractions

You can do more than look at the lights here. The resort promotes three of its attractions as its signature interactive light experiences, and there are 11 night attractions in total.

  • Aozora Pedal (青空ペダル): Pedal a bike along a track in the air at 370 meters above sea level, with the illuminations spread out below you.
  • Rainbow Lift (虹のリフト): A 250-meter lift ride wrapped in rainbow-colored lights.
  • Magical Wave (マジカルウェーブ): A slide of about 100 meters with a glowing course, set up this year as an Oto Illumi tie-in. The Oto Illumi songs play as a playlist while you ride.
  • Ferris wheel: See the whole lit-up park from above.
  • Light Aerial Athletic (光の空中アスレチック): An aerial obstacle course lit in bright colors.

Tips before you go

  • Check the open day first. From January the park is closed on Wednesdays and Thursdays, and from April 5 it opens only on weekends and holidays.
  • Arriving in the afternoon? Lifts are free from 16:00, and the Night Free Pass goes on sale at 14:00.
  • Plan around the shows. The poi show skips Nov 14, Nov 23 and Dec 19, and the bubble show runs only on Jan 9 and 10.
  • Keep your phone charged. Long evenings of photos and videos drain batteries fast. Here is how to rent ChargeSPOT power banks for free with d VALUE PASS.
  • Watch for ticket deals. Leisure booking sites run campaigns from time to time, such as the Asoview Asobitsukushi campaign. Whether this event is included depends on each campaign, so check the terms.
  • Paying by card? If you’re new to Japan and still choosing a card, see which credit card foreigners in Japan should get first.
