If you work around Otemachi or regularly pass through Tokyo Station, there is a small reason to take a detour at the end of October. Japan Airlines (JAL) and real estate developer Tokyo Tatemono are holding JAL Furusato Marche (JALふるさとマルシェ), a market where municipalities and businesses from across Japan sell their local products. Furusato means hometown, and the idea is simple: bring things you rarely find in Tokyo to an office district in the middle of the city.

It runs for two days only, on October 28 (Wed) and 29 (Thu), 2026, from 11:00 to 19:00, at Mori no Plaza (森のプラザ) on the second basement floor of Otemachi Tower. Entry is free, and you can walk there without going outside from Otemachi Station.

What you will find at the market

The core of the event is selling regional products. Local governments and businesses from around Japan, including Hokkaido and Okinawa, will set up stalls, so you can browse goods that normally only turn up in their home region or at a dedicated antenna shop.

The organizers have shared a lineup of exhibitors with photos and short product descriptions. Take a look at it below to decide which stalls to visit first.

Products may change from what is shown in the lineup, so treat it as a preview rather than a guaranteed menu.

If you find a region you’d like to support on an ongoing basis, hometown tax donations are another route to local products. Our guide to the October changes to Furusato Nozei explains what has changed for donors.

Why JAL and Tokyo Tatemono are doing this

The two companies combine different strengths here. JAL brings its network of connections with regions all over Japan, while Tokyo Tatemono contributes its experience in urban development and working with local communities. The goal is to show city dwellers what makes each region appealing and, in turn, support local economies.

In September 2026, JAL and Tokyo Tatemono started working together in three areas aimed at a sustainable society: resource recycling, environmental education and regional revitalization. This market is their first initiative linking cities and regions under that partnership. You can read the original partnership announcement on the Tokyo Tatemono news page (Japanese).

Otemachi was chosen deliberately. It is one of the main business districts in Japan, where historic sites sit next to modern high-rises, so a market here reaches a large number of people who work in the city.

Seen from the travel side, a market like this is also a low-cost way to scout destinations. If something from Kyushu catches your eye, our post on JAL flight and hotel discounts for Kyushu covers one way to go there.

How to get there

The venue is underground and linked to the station, so you will not need an umbrella.

  • By subway: Directly connected to Otemachi Station on the Tokyo Metro Tozai, Marunouchi, Chiyoda and Hanzomon lines, and the Toei Mita Line. Mori no Plaza sits on the connecting passageway.
  • By JR: About a 5-minute walk from the Marunouchi North Exit of JR Tokyo Station.

Otemachi Station is a large underground network with five subway lines. Following signs for Otemachi Tower or OOTEMORI is usually easier than looking for an exit number.

The venue: Otemachi Tower and its urban forest

Otemachi Tower (大手町タワー) is a large mixed-use complex with offices, the shopping and dining zone OOTEMORI (オーテモリ), and the luxury hotel Aman Tokyo on its upper floors. More details are on the Otemachi Tower website and the OOTEMORI website.

Mori no Plaza is not a typical basement concourse. A 15-meter atrium lets natural light from the forest above reach the underground space, so it feels more like standing in the woods than in a station passage.

That forest is Otemachi Forest (大手町の森), which covers about one third of the site, roughly 3,600 m². In March 2025 it became the first green space certified at the top three-star level under TSUNAG, a green space certification system run by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism. A temperature survey on August 19–20, 2025 found it about 3°C cooler than the surrounding area at noon. If you have a few minutes after shopping, it is worth going up to ground level for a short walk. See the Otemachi Forest page for more.

Things to check before you go

  • Payment differs by stall. The organizers say payment methods vary by vendor and should be checked at the venue. Carrying both cash and a card is the safe option. If you are still deciding which card to get in Japan, see our guide to credit cards for foreigners in Japan.
  • Products may change. Items shown in the lineup are not guaranteed to be on sale.
  • The event itself may change. Content can be changed or cancelled without notice, so check for updates close to the date.
  • You may be photographed. The organizers, related parties and press will film and photograph the event, and the footage may be used on websites, social media and future promotions.
  • Weekday timing. Both days fall midweek, so a lunch break or a stop on the way home from work is the realistic window for most people.
