Hibiya’s winter light-up is back. From Thursday, November 12, 2026 to Sunday, February 28, 2027, Tokyo Midtown Hibiya (東京ミッドタウン日比谷) in Yurakucho, Chiyoda-ku, and the streets around it are lit every evening from 16:00 to 23:00. The headline this year is a roughly 8-meter full-color tree inspired by the upcoming Marvel film Avengers: Doomsday, paired with music and light shows. That tree is only up until December 25, so timing matters if it’s the part you want to see.

The Avengers: Doomsday tree at Hibiya Step Plaza
The main event has its own name: Avengers: Doomsday presents HIBIYA Magic Time SQUARE 2026. In Hibiya Step Plaza, a main tree about 8 meters tall is covered in full-color LEDs, and the lights are synchronized with background music from the Avengers series so the whole plaza becomes a show, not just a tree to photograph. It fits the neighborhood: Hibiya is known as Tokyo’s district of film and theater.

| Period | Thu, Nov 12 to Fri, Dec 25, 2026 |
|---|---|
| Location | Hibiya Step Plaza, Tokyo Midtown Hibiya (spot 1 on the map) |
| Organizer | Tokyo Midtown Hibiya |
| Cooperation | Hibiya Area Management (一般社団法人日比谷エリアマネジメント) |
| Sponsor | Avengers: Doomsday (アベンジャーズ/ドゥームズデイ) |
The film itself opens in Japan on Friday, December 18, 2026, the same day as in the US. It is the latest Marvel Studios Avengers movie, coming seven years after Avengers: Endgame, and Robert Downey Jr. returns to the MCU, this time as the villain Doctor Doom, a scientist in a gleaming silver mask.

Map: the four illumination spots
The lights are spread across four areas, so it’s worth walking the whole loop instead of stopping at the tree. The numbers on the official map match the list below.

| No. | Spot | Where | Look |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | HIBIYA Magic Time SQUARE 2026 | Hibiya Step Plaza | 8m full-color tree with music (until Dec 25) |
| 2 | ETERNAL HEART TREE | Top of the grand staircase at Hibiya Step Plaza | Silver-white lights with red hearts |
| 3 | PARK VIEW WINTER GARDEN | 6F Park View Garden | White lights with music and a city night view |
| 4 | HIBIYA AREA ILLUMINATION | Building exterior and Hibiya Nakadori | Full-color and white lights |
The other three spots, one by one
These three run for the full season, through February 28, 2027, so they are still there after the Avengers tree comes down.
At the top of the grand staircase, a katsura tree is wrapped in silver-white lights and accented with red hearts. It is a softer, warmer scene than the high-energy plaza below.

On the 6th floor, the low shrubs of Park View Garden are lit in white, with music playing in the background. You look out over central Tokyo at night while surrounded by the lights, which makes this the calmest stop on the route.

Along the building exterior and Hibiya Nakadori, full-color lights are combined with single-color white lights for depth. The organizer says the look changes with the time of night and the time of season, so a second visit later in winter will not look exactly the same.

Tips for planning your visit
- Want the Avengers tree? Go between November 12 and December 25. From December 18, the film is out too, so the last week before Christmas is when the tree and the movie overlap.
- Arrive after 16:00. The lights are on from 16:00 to 23:00. A late visit after dinner still gives you plenty of time.
- Do not skip the 6th floor. Park View Garden is the one spot with a night view of the city on top of the lights.
- Coming in January or February? Spots 2, 3 and 4 continue until February 28, 2027.
- Check the special site. A dedicated site is planned for mid-November. Until then, use the official event page.
- Admission: the announcement does not mention a fee. Confirm on the official page rather than assuming.
Tokyo Midtown Hibiya is a complex of offices, shops, restaurants and a cinema (about the complex), so it’s easy to make a full evening of it.
