Snoopy Christmas at Grandberry Park: Tree, Ice Arena, Free Hats and Dates

Key Takeaways: Snoopy and his siblings take over Grandberry Park in Machida from November 14 to December 25, 2026, with a footprint trail from the station leading to an 8-metre tree lit every evening. Most of the decorations cost nothing, and the first 3,000 visitors on opening day get a free paper hat. The SNOOPY ICE ARENA runs until February 28, 2027, the date the illuminations are also planned to end.
Machida, Tokyo · Nov 14 – Dec 25

Snoopy and his siblings are taking over Grandberry Park (グランベリーパーク), the open-air outlet mall in Machida, Tokyo, for the Christmas season. This year’s theme is Together this Holiday: character panels lead you from the station to a tree about 8 metres tall, the whole park lights up after dark, and an ice rink opens in December. Most of the decorations cost nothing to enjoy, and a handful of extras are paid. Here is what’s on, which day to go, and what each part costs.

  • Christmas event: November 14 – December 25, 2026
  • Tree lighting: 16:00–22:00 daily (17:00–22:00 on November 14 only)
  • Illuminations: planned to stay on until February 28, 2027
  • Free on day one: Snoopy Museum collaboration paper hats for the first 3,000 visitors
  • SNOOPY ICE ARENA: December 5, 2026 – February 28, 2027
  • Getting there: directly connected to Minami-machida Grandberry Park Station (南町田グランベリーパーク駅)

From Shibuya, an express train on the Den-en-toshi Line (田園都市線) takes about 35 minutes, and the station opens straight into the park, so there is no walk from the street to worry about. Grandberry Park is a large outlet complex with around 220 stores and seven outdoor plazas, right next to Tsuruma Park (鶴間公園), which is why most of the Christmas program happens outdoors.

One change if you have been before: the flame show at Theater Plaza (シアタープラザ) is suspended while the Christmas event runs.

The tree, the footprint trail and the lights

The visit is set up as a short story you walk through. Between the station and the bridge, panels show Snoopy’s siblings on their way to meet up, and Snoopy’s footprint stickers run from the station all the way across the bridge to Theater Plaza. Follow them and you end up at the tree.

The tree in Theater Plaza is about 8 metres tall. Its decorations show the siblings sitting together on benches under glowing street lamps, and there is a character panel on every side, so it looks good from whichever direction you approach. It is lit from 16:00 to 22:00 every day of the event (17:00 to 22:00 on November 14).

For photos, head to Grandberry Plaza (グランベリープラザ), where a dedicated Snoopy and siblings photo spot is set up. Candle lights and street lamps switch on in the evening, so it is worth coming back after dark.

Illuminations cover the whole park, with the main displays around Station Court and Grandberry Plaza. They are planned to stay on until February 28, 2027, long after the Christmas event itself ends, so a January visit still gets you the lights.

Opening day: free paper hats and the countdown

If you can only pick one day, November 14 (Sat) has the most going on. To celebrate the tree lighting, paper hats made in collaboration with the Snoopy Museum (スヌーピーミュージアム) are given out free to visitors.

You can wear the hat while you walk around the mall or visit the Snoopy Museum, and a Snoopy greeting is also planned at the museum that day. Since the hats are first come, first served, arriving around 14:00 is the safer bet; then stay for the countdown and see the tree light up for the first time.

Worth knowing before you queue:

  • No reservations. When it gets busy, numbered tickets may be handed out, only to people aged 4 and up, and they can run out.
  • Limit of one mascot tag per person and up to five of each patch type.
  • You can’t buy the tag without patches, and patches aren’t sold on their own.
  • Stock of each item is limited, so your first choice may be gone. Each tag also varies slightly.
  • Preschool children must enter with a guardian. The room has hot irons and small patches, so keep an eye on little ones.
  • Details may change on the day.
Cashless only. The workshop takes credit cards and transit IC cards, not cash. If you don’t have a Japanese card yet, our guide to which credit card foreigners in Japan can get first walks through the realistic options.

Two Christmas markets in December

Winter Gift Market is new this year. Over the weekend of December 19 (Sat) and 20 (Sun), 10:00–16:00, Market Plaza and Art Plaza fill with Christmas goods for sale, workshops and stalls run by the mall’s own tenants. A good weekend to pick up small gifts.

Grandberry Park Christmas Market in Tsuruma Park runs on December 5 (Sat), 11:00–17:00, along the Suido-michi path in Tsuruma Park next door. Expect Christmas food and goods plus workshops for kids and adults. The same day is the opening day of SNOOPY ICE ARENA, so you can combine both.

If browsing handmade goods and art is your idea of a good weekend, our guide to the Musashino Art University Festival covers another outing in western Tokyo.

Snoopy Museum, PEANUTS Cafe and Christmas food

The Snoopy Museum, which sits between the mall and Tsuruma Park, is the world’s only official satellite of the Charles M. Schulz Museum. From November 1 (Sun) it runs its seasonal Happy Christmas event, with special decorations and a tree inspired by the Christmas scenes in the Peanuts comics.

Next door, PEANUTS Cafe Snoopy Museum serves desserts and drinks tied to the Happy Christmas theme from November 1 to December 25, with its usual Christmas decorations inside. See the PEANUTS Cafe official site for the menu.

Restaurants across Grandberry Park also offer limited Christmas cakes, sweets and party platters from November 14 to December 25. You can eat in, and some takeout items can be ordered in advance; the full list is on the Christmas menu page.

How to enjoy it without overspending

  • Start with the free parts. The footprint trail, the tree, the photo spot and the illuminations cost nothing to see. On November 14 the paper hat is free too.
  • Arrive late afternoon. The tree switches on at 16:00 and shops stay open until 20:00, so you can shop first and catch the lights after.
  • Come in January for a quieter look. The illuminations are planned to run until February 28, 2027, and the rink stays open until the same day.
  • Pre-order Christmas food. Some restaurants take advance orders for takeout, which saves standing in line on December 24 and 25.
  • Keep your phone charged. An evening of night photos drains batteries fast. Our d VALUE PASS guide to free ChargeSPOT rentals explains how to borrow power banks without paying each time.
  • Check the weather for the rink. The ice arena and skating class close in rain or storms.
