Pizza Hut Japan is running a sale where six medium pizzas cost the same as a small. It’s called 年末前の家計応援 サイズアップ 特大セール (“pre-year-end budget sale”), and prices start at ¥740 for takeout and ¥1,060 for delivery.

The sale runs in two blocks, Nov 2 (Mon)–7 (Sat) and Nov 11 (Wed)–23 (Mon, holiday), 19 days in total; Nov 8–10 are not included. You can only order through Pizza Hut Online (website or official app), and only listed stores take part. We went through the official campaign page, including its store list, so you know what to check before ordering.

The deal at a glance

Pizza Hut has run the same format before as a late-summer and an autumn sale, and says it is back in November “due to popular demand.” This time it also covers the new 3-Cheese Lasagna-Style Meat Sauce Pizza, launched on Nov 2.

Prices for all six pizzas (delivery and takeout)

These are the prices on the campaign page, all for a medium and including tax. Japanese menu names are added so you can find them on the order screen.

The biggest cut is on Zeitaku Gourmet 4: ¥1,490 for takeout. That is where Pizza Hut’s “up to ¥1,700 off for takeout” and “up to 53% off” come from. The cheapest option is a Pepperoni Classic for takeout at ¥740.

What “small-size price” actually saves you

Pizza Hut Japan already prices takeout below delivery. Take the new 3-Cheese Lasagna-Style Meat Sauce Pizza: a medium is ¥1,860 for delivery, but for takeout it is ¥1,300 for a medium and ¥880 for a small (official prices).

During the sale, that medium takeout drops to ¥880, exactly the usual small price. In other words, you pay for a small and get the next size up.

Against the usual takeout price, that pizza is ¥420 (about 32%) cheaper. Pizza Hut describes a small as “just right for one” and a medium as “for two,” so two people sharing a medium pay ¥440 each.

No discount on Nov 8–10: the calendar

The sale is split in two, and Nov 8 (Sun)–10 (Tue) are not included. Those three days are Pizza Hut’s monthly “Hut Day” (ハットの日, the 8th–10th of every month); in October it meant four medium pizzas for ¥810 takeout, among other deals. November’s Hut Day details had not been announced as of Nov 3.

The last day is Monday, Nov 23 (Labor Thanksgiving Day), the end of a three-day weekend.

7 things to check before you order

1. Order on the website or the official app. Phone and in-store orders don’t get the sale price.
2. Only some stores take part. The press release says “all stores nationwide (with some exceptions),” but the campaign page has a separate list marked “selected stores only.” We counted 415 stores in 41 prefectures on Nov 3. Iwate, Miyagi, Yamagata, Gunma, Wakayama and Miyazaki have no stores on the list. Check that your delivery store, or the store you pick up from, is listed.
3. Some listed stores have different dates. 上池台店 (Ota, Tokyo) starts on Nov 16, 中野南台店 is closed until Nov 10, and ミュープラット大曽根店 (Nagoya) opens on Nov 18.
4. Medium only, no half-and-half. Small and large sizes are not discounted.
5. Crust: Hand-Tossed or Special Crispy. Same price either way.
6. Limited quantities. Some stores may sell out before the sale ends. If you have a day in mind, order ahead.
7. Can’t be combined. The official notes say other campaigns, promotions and side menus are excluded.

How to get extra cheese for ¥250

For the six sale pizzas, extra Gouda cheese is ¥250 instead of the usual ¥380. Add it the wrong way, though, and you pay full price.

1. On Pizza Hut Online, open “Campaign” (キャンペーン) and then 年末前の家計応援
2. Pick the pizza whose name includes ［ゴーダチーズ増量］ (extra Gouda)
3. Don’t add it from the “Topping” (トッピング) button on the product photo; that is charged at the regular price

The ¥250 price covers one serving of extra Gouda. Other toppings, or Gouda added twice or more, cost the regular price.

Another 20% back via cashback sites (pick the right day)

Pizza Hut Online is listed on Japanese cashback (point) sites. On Nov 3, both Moppy and Hapitas offered 20% of the order amount. On a ¥1,490 takeout Zeitaku Gourmet 4, that is close to ¥300 back.

The 20% isn’t there every day, though. Our point-site tracker, Poinavi, logs the rate daily; grouped by weekday, October looked like this:

Both sites paid 20% on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, dropping to 12–13% from Tuesday to Thursday. Within the sale, that points to Nov 6 (Fri)–7 (Sat), Nov 13–15 and Nov 20–22. No. Only orders on Pizza Hut Online (website or official app) qualify.

Q. How do I check whether my local Pizza Hut is included?

Use the store list at the bottom of the official campaign page. On Nov 3 it listed 415 stores in 41 prefectures; Iwate, Miyagi, Yamagata, Gunma, Wakayama and Miyazaki had none.

Q. Is the sale on from Nov 8 to 10?

No. Those three days are not part of the sale. The 8th–10th of each month is Pizza Hut’s Hut Day, and November’s details had not been announced as of Nov 3.

Q. Are large or small pizzas discounted too?

No, only medium pizzas. A medium costs the same as a small.

Q. Can I order half-and-half?
