If you are in the Osaka area this Sunday and want a laid-back day out that costs nothing to get into, this one is worth a look. Senshu Onpa Sai 2026 (泉州 音波祭 2026) takes over WHATAWON, an entertainment mall in Kishiwada, on October 25, 2026, from 11:00 to 20:00. The theme is surf culture told through waves, sound and film: talk shows by a California-based board shaper and a Japanese pro surfing champion, live reggae and hip-hop, food stalls, surf shops and an evening raffle.

You do not need to surf to enjoy it. Below is what is on, who is cooking and playing, and a few things to know before you go.

WHATAWON is a mixed shopping, dining and entertainment complex in Kishiwada, run by antiqua Inc., which is based in Izumi, Osaka. The facility describes itself as pet-friendly, so bringing your dog is part of the idea rather than a grudging exception.

Part of the festival’s sales will be donated to help run ISOKOKIDS 2027, a surfing competition for children. The organizer says the money goes toward kids who surf and the next generation of surf culture.

Eisaku Murata: how a surfboard gets made

Eisaku Murata grew up in Osaka and now works as a hand shaper in Huntington Beach, California. That is also where Olympic surfer Kanoa Igarashi is from. In his talk, Murata covers how boards are built, what surfing looks like in California, and everyday life around Huntington Beach. This is a rare chance to hear it firsthand if you are curious about board making or life on the US West Coast.

A signing session is planned right after the talk. If you attend the talk, you can join the signing with no sign-up or extra requirements.

Sasuke Kawatani: a slide talk from a national champion

Sasuke Kawatani (河谷佐助) is a Japan Pro Surfing grand champion, and he gives a slide talk on surfing and the competitive side of the sport. The venue also introduces TOBY, the brand he produces. Throughout the day, a big screen keeps running footage from the Isonoura Kids Surfing Contest 2026 (磯の浦キッズサーフィンコンテスト2026).

Original craft beer by Kibi Doteshita Bakushu (吉備土手下麦酒) and reef is also planned. Coffee and other drinks are available too.
