Kawasaki Night Market: street food for three nights, bar hopping for eight days
The 5th edition takes over the east side of JR Kawasaki Station from 23 October to 1 November. Stalls are free to browse; the bar half now runs on tickets.
Kawasaki sits between Tokyo and Yokohama and usually loses out to both when people plan a night out. That is exactly the gap this event is built to fill. Kawasaki Yoichi (川崎夜市) is the city’s autumn night market, and the 5th edition splits into two halves that run back to back: an open-air stall market with long-standing local restaurants, and a station-area bar crawl through the small streets behind the east exit.

What Kawasaki Yoichi actually is
It is a city-backed autumn event, not a single commercial festival ground. The organiser is the Kawasaki Yoichi Executive Committee, which brings together the City of Kawasaki, the Kawasaki Station area shopping street federation, the Cinecitta-dori shopping street association, the Kawasaki Ekimae Nakamise-dori shopping street association, Citta Entertainment, the NPO Kawasaki Music Cast and Nokuchi Kichi.
That mix matters for visitors: the stalls are run by restaurants that already trade in the neighbourhood, and the bar half literally sends you into their shops. The previous edition drew 38,000 people, so expect a busy street rather than a quiet local affair.

Part 1: the Soul Food Stalls (free entry)
The Kawasaki Soul Food Stalls (川崎ソウルフード屋台) is the open-air half: a stall market lined with long-established local names and newer restaurants that have built a following in Kawasaki. Entry is free, so you pay only for what you eat and drink.
The one change worth knowing
This edition runs for three consecutive days instead of just a weekend, with a Friday added. The Friday session starts at 17:00, which is built around people stopping by after work rather than making a special trip.
Saturday is the longest day at ten hours; Sunday closes earliest, at 20:00.

Part 2: the Bar Festival, now on tickets
The Kawasaki Bar Festival (川崎バル祭り) is the indoor half. Participating restaurants and bars around the east exit each put out a signature bar dish, and you move from shop to shop across eight days. This is the format that gives the event its reputation for a messy, eclectic food culture that is neither Tokyo nor Yokohama.
The headline change for this edition is the ticket system, introduced here for the first time.

Where the venues are
Everything sits on the east side of JR Kawasaki Station, which is the side with the department stores and the covered shopping arcades. No extra transport is needed once you arrive.

How to plan the night
- Friday for a quieter market. The 17:00 start on 23 October is the newest slot and the one least likely to be shoulder to shoulder in the first hour.
- Sunday 25 October for both halves. Eat at the stalls in the afternoon, then start the bar crawl in the evening, since the two overlap only on this day.
- Weekdays for the bar half. From 26 October the stalls are finished and only the ticketed shops remain, which suits an after-work stop without the crowds.
- Bring cash. Payment methods at the stalls have not been announced, and small outdoor vendors in Japan often stay cash-only.
- Check the weather before leaving. Only the outdoor half is cancelled in severe weather; the bar half happens inside real shops.
If you are travelling in from outside Kanagawa, it is worth pairing the trip with something else in the same week.
