In short: To celebrate the July 24 release of Chiikawa the Movie: Secret of the Mermaid Island, Tokyo Metro is running a city-walking real-world escape game where you ride the subway and search for Chiikawa. The puzzle kit is ¥3,300 (tax incl.), and there’s also a limited-design 24-hour pass for ¥1,500. You can play just fine with a regular Tokyo Metro 24-hour ticket (¥700) — below we break down which ticket to buy and how to keep the cost down.
What kind of event is this?
“Chiikawa, Sagashitemasu. — Chiikawa the Movie Tokyo Metro Escape Game” is a roaming real-world escape game held by Tokyo Metro to celebrate the release of Chiikawa the Movie: Secret of the Mermaid Island. You become one of the island’s residents, hopping between stations and neighborhoods by subway, solving puzzles along the way to find the missing Chiikawa, Hachiware and Usagi. The puzzles are woven through with the movie’s world, so the further you get, the more it feels like you’ve wandered into Chiikawa’s universe.
It’s organized by ESCAPE Inc., which runs the experiential-content platform “ESCAPE.ID.” The event runs July 24 (Fri) to November 3 (Mon, holiday), 2026, with play available until 20:00 on the final day.

How to play (4 steps)
- ① Buy a puzzle kit — purchase or redeem a kit on the special sales site or at a sales location.
- ② Register — download the “ESCAPE.ID” app, sign up with Google / LINE / Apple or email, then enter the serial code inside your kit.
- ③ Ride and solve — follow the kit and app to Tokyo Metro stations, walk the streets, solve the puzzles and find the Chiikawa gang.
- ④ Final puzzle — after solving everything, tackle the final puzzle; answer correctly to clear the game and earn the limited reward.
Three ways to get a kit
① Buy in store
Buy directly at a sales location. If sold out, wait for restock.
② Redemption ticket
Buy online first, then swap it for a kit at a redemption store. Redemption windows apply.
③ Mail order
Order on ESCAPE.ID and the kit ships to your home. Each date has a purchase limit.
Sales schedule & playable periods
The redemption-ticket sales site opens on July 10 (Fri): stock is replenished at 0:00 / 12:00 noon / 19:00, and you can buy up to 5 kits per person. July 10–23 is the advance-order period; in-store sales run July 24 – November 3 (details to be announced).
Kits are sold by “playable period” (about two weeks each). Redemption comes in two types — “advance” and “regular” — and advance redemption starts one week before the playable period begins. Here are the first two periods:

Money tip: Is the limited 24-hour pass worth it?
Since you’ll cover several stations over 4–6 hours, an unlimited-ride (1-day / 24-hour) ticket is basically essential. Here’s the easy-to-miss part: the limited-design 24-hour pass costs ¥1,500, while a regular Tokyo Metro 24-hour ticket is only ¥700. That ¥800 difference is essentially the collectible value of the limited design plus its special mount. You don’t need the limited pass to play — a regular 24-hour ticket or any day pass works just fine (the official site says so too).

- It’s valid for “24 hours from your first tap-in” (not the calendar day): start in the evening and it lasts until the next evening — great for an overnight trip.
- Show the pass for discounts at some stations (e.g., ¥100 off admission at Asakusa Hanayashiki) — a nice bonus if you stop by.
- Note: the Tokyo Metro 24h ticket does not cover Toei Subway or JR lines. Mind fare adjustments.
- Pay for the kit and ticket with a high-reward cashless method or credit card for an effective discount.
The limited 24-hour pass is a shipped item (not redeemable): 40,000 sets, max 5 per person. Applications open on the special site from 0:00 on July 10; shipping starts July 24, valid through May 3, 2027.

- Each kit has a playable validity period (about 2 weeks). Buying on the last day does not extend it; once expired you can’t play, and no refunds or exchanges are given.
- What’s on sale now is a “redemption ticket” you pick up in person; direct kit shipping starts later.
- This event is spoiler-free: publishing puzzles, answers or materials on blogs/SNS, and transferring or reselling them, is strictly prohibited.
- Station staff and crew do not hold hints or answers — please don’t ask them.
- Walk safely on platforms and inside stations. The game uses your phone camera; data charges are your own.
