Amazon Prime Day Guide: How to Enter & Maximize Your Points in Japan
Amazon’s biggest sale of the year, “Prime Day,” is back. This guide walks you through the entry step, the points-up campaign, the lucky draw, and the smartest ways to pay—in the easiest order. Just follow along and you won’t leave any rewards on the table.
⏱ The Short Version (do these 3 things)
- ① Enter the campaign first: Entry runs Jun 16 (Tue) 14:00 – Jul 13 (Mon) 23:59. No entry = no bonus points, no matter how much you buy.
- ② Spend ¥10,000+ (tax incl.) total during the period: It doesn’t have to be one order—your combined total counts toward the points-up and the lucky draw.
- ③ Use your membership & payment method: Prime members and Amazon Mastercard both stack extra rewards. Not a member? Join via the 30-day free trial.
- +α: Also link d POINT: Docomo’s d POINT linking stacks with the Amazon points-up (double-dip), and first-time linkers get 10% back (cap 500 pt).
When is Prime Day? The full schedule
This year’s Prime Day comes in two stages—an “Early Sale” followed by the “Main” event—so deals run for about a week straight. The key thing: the points-up campaign covers the entire Jul 7–13 window, which means purchases during the Early Sale also count toward the rewards conditions.
| Phase | Period (Japan time) |
|---|---|
| 🛒 Early Sale | Jul 7 (Tue) 0:00 – Jul 9 (Thu) 23:59 |
| 🔥 Prime Day (main) | Jul 10 (Fri) 0:00 – Jul 13 (Mon) 23:59 |
| 📝 Entry period | Jun 16 (Tue) 14:00 – Jul 13 (Mon) 23:59 |
| 💰 Points-up qualifying purchases | Jul 7 (Tue) 0:00 – Jul 13 (Mon) 23:59 |
Step 1 (most important): Enter
This is where most people slip up. It’s easy to assume that simply buying during the sale earns you the bonus—but if you don’t tap the “Entry” (エントリー) button, you get no bonus points at all. The good news: entering takes one second.
- Sign in to Amazon and open the Prime Day store page.
- Tap the “エントリー” (Entry) button. When it shows “エントリー済み” (entered), you’re done.
- As long as you enter during the entry period, purchases made before you entered also count—provided they fall within the qualifying purchase window.
How the points-up campaign works
Once you’ve entered and spent ¥10,000+ (tax incl.) in total during the period, you earn extra Amazon points based on which conditions you meet. Here are the main tiers announced for this round:
+1.0% over ¥10,000 / +2.5% over ¥40,000 / +3.0% over ¥50,000
+3.0% over ¥10,000 (Prime members; base reward included)
+8.0% over ¥10,000 (sold & shipped by Amazon.co.jp)
+4.0% over ¥10,000 (sports gear*/outdoor gear)
The lucky draw: up to 100,000 points
Meet the same conditions above (enter + spend ¥10,000+ total during the period) and you’re automatically entered into the lucky draw—no extra steps. There’s a chance to win even more points:
Winners are notified by email within about 60 days after the campaign ends (no notice is sent to non-winners). You can win once per person, and prizes are awarded as limited-time points.
Link d POINT for “double points” (stacks with Amazon points)
To squeeze even more out of Prime Day, don’t overlook linking d POINT (dポイント) to your Amazon account. Run by NTT Docomo, it’s separate from—and stacks with—Amazon’s own points-up. The same order can earn Amazon points AND d POINTs at once (“nijū-dori,” double-dipping).
Why link it? (the benefits)
- Stacks with the Amazon points-up: it layers on top of the rewards above—genuine double-dipping.
- First-time linkers get 10% back in d POINTs on the first order (cap 500 pt, limited-time/limited-use); for new linkers who see the entry button.
- Even if already linked, you can win 100,000 d POINTs by lucky draw—spend ¥5,000+ total and use 500+ d POINTs during Jul 7–13.
- No Docomo line required: anyone with a d ACCOUNT can link and earn/spend d POINTs on Amazon (a permanent service since April 2024).
How to link (order doesn’t matter)
- Enter on the campaign page (entry/linking period: Jun 16 – Jul 13).
- Link your d ACCOUNT and Amazon account (register your d ACCOUNT in Amazon’s “Partner Point Program”).
- Shop during Jul 7–13. For the draw, remember ¥5,000+ and using 500+ d POINTs.
▶ For the Prime Day d POINT campaign details & entry, use the official Docomo page.
※ d POINTs are limited-time/limited-use and awarded roughly 60 days after the campaign ends. Linking multiple Amazon accounts to one d ACCOUNT still counts only once. Amazon gift cards, digital content, Subscribe & Save, and Prime fees are excluded. Always confirm the latest terms officially.
5 tips to maximize your rewards
1. Always enter first
Worth repeating: enter before anything else. Even if you haven’t decided what to buy, tap “Entry” now so that everything you buy afterward qualifies.
2. Not a member? Join via the free trial
Prime Day is members-only. If you’re not a member, you can join with the 30-day free trial and shop the deals. Perks like free shipping and Prime Video are genuinely useful anyway, so this is a good time to sign up. For exactly what’s included and how to register, see our full guide below.
3. Pay with the Amazon Mastercard to stack rewards
As shown above, paying with the Amazon Mastercard adds extra rewards, and new sign-ups often come with a welcome bonus (see our Amazon Prime Mastercard guide). Stacking “membership (Prime) × payment (Mastercard) × eligible products” is the winning play for this campaign.
4. How to reach ¥10,000 the smart way
The threshold is ¥10,000 total for the period—not per order or per item. If you’re just short, topping up with daily essentials or consumables is the smart move. Per the official FAQ, amounts paid with points or gift cards also count toward the total (but buying a gift card itself does not).
5. Grab what you want during the Early Sale
Popular items can sell out during the Early Sale and end while supplies last—and the main event isn’t necessarily cheaper than the early one. If you spot something you want, grab it early. That said, don’t buy things you don’t need just to hit ¥10,000; buying only what you actually need is what really saves money.
Point expiry & key cautions
- Point type: Rewards and prizes are issued as limited-time points.
- Expiry: Valid until the last day of the month after the points are confirmed. E.g., confirmed Aug 1 → expires Sep 30. Expired points are lost.
- Timing: Issued as “pending points” within a few days of the end, then confirmed about 40 days later.
- Membership status: If you’re not a paid Prime member when points are confirmed, the member-perk portion isn’t added—so don’t cancel a free trial too soon.
- Excluded transactions: Subscription fees, Amazon gift cards, in-app purchases, the grocery store, Prime membership fees, all fees/shipping/gift-wrap, and pre-order items are not eligible.
