Katsuya (かつや) is the tonkatsu chain best known for its low-priced katsudon. It has added a limited-time bowl for people who can never decide what to order. The Fried Rice and Teri-Tama Mixed Rice Yokubari Bowl (チャーハンとテリたま混ぜご飯の欲張り飯) went on sale on Friday 11 September 2026 at Katsuya stores in Japan. A few locations don’t carry it.
Yokubari means greedy, and the name fits. Half the bowl is fried rice and the other half is rice mixed with a soft egg and teriyaki sauce. What’s in the Yokubari Bowl
The rice is split into two halves, so one bowl gives you two different flavours.
The toppings
- Loin katsu: Katsuya’s signature breaded pork cutlet
- Karaage: Japanese fried chicken
- Red sausage: an old-fashioned red wiener that adds a bit of nostalgia
Katsuya suggests mixing and matching as you eat. Try the katsu with the fried rice and the karaage with the saucy teri-tama rice. When you want a change from both, have a bite of sausage.
Katsuya opened its first shop in Sagamihara, Kanagawa, in August 1998. The pork for its tonkatsu comes from Canada and the US. It is aged for about four weeks, delivered to stores chilled, and breaded one piece at a time in each shop. Besides eating in, you can take away a bento, pork miso soup (tonjiru) or just the side dishes. Katsuya is part of Arcland Service Holdings, which also runs the karaage chain Karayama and the Thai restaurant Mango Tree.
Prices: dine-in vs takeout bento
Katsuya lists one set of prices for regular stores and another for ticket-machine stores (券売機店舗). The takeout version is sold as the Yokubari Bowl bento (チャーハンとテリたま混ぜご飯の欲張り飯弁当).

At regular stores both versions cost ¥890 before tax. With tax, though, the bento comes to ¥18 less than eating in. At ticket-machine stores both are ¥980, so price doesn’t matter when choosing between them.

The Katsuya app and its ¥100 coupons
If you eat at Katsuya often, the Katsuya app (かつやアプリ) is worth having on your phone. It does three things.
- A ¥100-off coupon on your phone. Stores hand out a paper ¥100 discount ticket every month, and the app has a matching ¥100-off coupon. If you forget the paper ticket or it expires, you can use the coupon in the app instead.
- Online takeout orders. Online orders go through O:der ToGo, a mobile ordering system from Showcase Gig Inc. You reserve and pay in advance, so you wait less at the store. An app-only ¥100-off coupon is also applied to these orders.
- Menu and coupons. The app also shows the latest menu and coupons you can use in store.

At a regular store, the Yokubari Bowl costs ¥297 more than the basic katsudon and ¥66 more than the loin katsu set meal. For the extra money you get karaage, a red sausage and a second kind of rice with your katsu. Katsuya hasn’t said how large the katsu is or how much rice comes in the new bowl, so you can’t compare portion sizes exactly.
If you want to try several things in one order, the bowl is a good choice. If you only want katsu, the regular menu is cheaper.
Ordering tips
- Keep the name handy. Save a photo of the bowl, or copy its Japanese name from the start of this article, so you can show it to staff.
- Skip the lunch queue. For takeout, order ahead in the app or reserve by phone. You can also just order at the register.
- At a ticket-machine store, price doesn’t matter. Dine-in and the bento both cost ¥980.
- Don’t wait too long. There’s no announced end date, but the bowl is only sold while ingredients last.
- Check your branch. Some stores don’t sell it, and some charge a different price.
