JRE CARD Overview
JRE CARD is a credit card from JR East’s View Card series, designed specifically to maximize rewards at station building shops. Its standout feature is 3.5% cashback at “JRE CARD Partner Stores,” plus Suica integration, commuter pass functionality, and travel insurance.
| Annual Fee | ¥524 (tax incl.) / Free for the first year |
|---|---|
| Card Brands | Visa, Mastercard, JCB (varies by card type) |
| Base Reward Rate | 0.5% (¥1,000 → 5 JRE POINT) |
| Partner Store Rate | 3.5% (¥100 excl. tax → 3P + ¥1,000 incl. tax → 5P) |
| Suica Top-up | 1.5% (Mobile Suica) / 0.5% (Card Suica) |
| Family Card | Not available |
| ETC Card | Available (¥524/year) |
| Apple Pay | Supported (QUICPay) |
| Travel Insurance | Overseas: up to ¥5M (automatic) / Domestic: up to ¥10M (usage-based) |
| Billing Cycle | Closes 5th of each month / Payment on the 4th of the following month |
Pay your JEXER Fitness Club monthly membership with JRE CARD (at least once in the prior year) to get the annual fee waived. Additionally, cardholders aged 24 or under who spend ¥5,000+ at S-PAL will receive 524 points back (equivalent to the annual fee).
Reward Rates — Up to 5%
JRE CARD offers different reward rates depending on where and how you use it. Station building shopping and transportation spending earn significantly higher rates:
The 3.5% at partner stores combines two components:
① Partner store bonus: ¥100 (excl. tax) → 3P (= 3%)
② Standard View Card points: ¥1,000 (incl. tax) → 5P (= 0.5%)
Total: approximately 3.5%. May be higher during promotional campaigns.
Three Card Types
JRE CARD comes in three versions with different features and brand options:
🟢 With Suica
- Built-in Suica function
- Brands: Visa / Mastercard / JCB
- Best for: those who don’t need commuter pass integration
- Most flexible option
🔵 With Suica + Commuter Pass
- Built-in Suica + commuter pass
- Brand: Visa only
- Best for: daily JR commuters
- One card = credit card + Suica + commuter pass
⚪ Contactless Payment
- No Suica function
- Brand: Visa only
- Numberless card design
- Best for: Mobile Suica users
If you already use Mobile Suica for your commuter pass, you don’t need the “Commuter Pass” type. Choose With Suica for more brand options, and buy your pass via Mobile Suica to earn 5% rewards (better than the 3% on physical card passes).
JRE CARD Partner Stores
JRE CARD partner stores cover nearly all commercial facilities in JR East station buildings. Shopping with your JRE CARD at these locations earns 3.5% rewards.
🗼 Greater Tokyo Area
🏔️ Tohoku Region
🏪 Other Major Brands
Seijo Ishii, Kinokuniya Bookstore, Yurindo, MUJI (select locations), UNIQLO (select locations), Starbucks, UNITED ARROWS, HANDS — as long as they’re inside the station buildings listed above, you earn 3.5%.
¥524 Annual Fee — How Much to Break Even?
While the annual fee is low, it’s still not free. Here’s how much spending it takes to recoup the fee in different scenarios:
In other words, spending just ¥1,300/month at station buildings — one lunch or a coffee plus snacks — is enough to cover the annual fee. For JR commuters, this threshold is practically negligible.
Switch from paper to web statements to earn 50 JRE POINT per month — that’s 600 points annually, nearly covering the entire annual fee by itself.
Best Ways to Use JRE POINT
JRE POINT earned with the JRE CARD has versatile redemption options. The expiry resets to 2 years from your last transaction, making it effectively unlimited as long as you keep using the card.
| Suica Top-up | 1P = ¥1. The most basic option, available anytime. |
|---|---|
| Station Building Shops | 1P = ¥1. Use directly at JRE POINT partner stores. |
| LUMINE Gift Cards | 3,600P → ¥4,000 / 8,400P → ¥10,000. Up to 119% exchange rate. |
| JRE POINT Reward Tickets | Redeem points for Shinkansen and other train tickets. |
| Dokokani Byuuun! | 6,000P for a round-trip Shinkansen ride to a random destination. |
| JRE MALL | Use points on JR East’s official shopping site. |

What is “Dokokani Byuuun!”?
A unique “destination roulette” travel service by JR East. For just 6,000 points (departing from Tokyo/Ueno/Omiya) or 5,000 points (from Sendai/Morioka/Niigata/Nagano), you get a round-trip Shinkansen ticket. The system randomly suggests 4 possible destinations, and your final destination is confirmed within 3 days of booking.
Normally costing over ¥10,000, this is one of the most exciting and cost-effective ways to use JRE POINT.
