Tsukuba Express Launches 20% Discount for Early-Morning Touch Payment Rides
Metropolitan Intercity Railway is running a trial campaign called “Relaxed Commute with Credit Card Touch Payment” on the Tsukuba Express (TX) line from May 11 to July 31, 2026. Conducted jointly with Sumitomo Mitsui Card, JCB, and QUADRAC, the initiative aims to promote off-peak commuting and verify the effects of spreading out ridership across time periods to level transport demand.
Campaign Details
Passengers using touch payment via credit cards who enter a designated station between the first train and 6:30 a.m. on weekdays, and exit at a designated station, will receive a 20% discount off the regular fare. By shifting your commute just slightly earlier, you can significantly cut your daily transportation costs.

- Eligible Days: Weekdays only
- Eligible Time: Enter a designated station between the first train and 6:30 a.m. on weekdays
